What the reported GTA 6 map leak shows—and what it doesn’t
PC Gamer reported on August 18, 2026, that screenshots presented as an in-game map were circulating with gameplay clips. The outlet noted that the map artwork looked unusually simple. That reporting confirms the image was being claimed as a leak; it does not establish that Rockstar made or released it. PC Gamer’s report did not include confirmation from Rockstar that the image is authentic.
So far, the image should be treated as unverified. Its apparent layout may invite comparison with fan reconstructions, but the available reporting does not establish the final road network, map scale, playable boundaries, or in-game interface.
Why reactions to the image are split
GamesRadar reported that some contributors to the long-running fan-mapping effort considered the broad layout consistent with their reconstruction and expressed confidence in the image. The same report noted that skepticism persisted. Those reactions show disagreement among people discussing the leak, not a survey of GTA fans or proof of authenticity. GamesRadar’s account attributes the confidence to fans; it is not an official Rockstar statement.

Fan maps are reconstructions: contributors compare publicly available material and make estimates about how locations may fit together. Sixmods describes the process as community analysis and notes that Rockstar has not authenticated a complete final map or announced final dimensions. A resemblance between a leak image and a reconstruction can explain why some people find it plausible, but it cannot independently verify the image. Sixmods’ overview of the mapping project is secondary analysis, not a Rockstar source.
What Rockstar has confirmed about Leonida
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page identifies Leonida as the setting and names Vice City among the locations. That confirms the game’s setting—not the exact geometry shown in a circulating image. Official location names and promotional material do not authenticate a particular road layout, coastline, map border, or complete in-game map.

TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 report, based on Game Informer’s cover story, names six primary regions:
- Vice City
- The Leonida Keys
- Grassrivers
- Port Gellhorn
- Ambrosia
- Mount Kalaga National Park
The report also characterizes the world as about twice the size of GTA V’s. That is a reported relative comparison, not an official land-area measurement: the reviewed sources provide no square-mile or square-kilometre figure for the map. It should not be used to validate fan estimates or the leaked image’s scale. TechRadar’s report supplies the region list and comparison.

How to judge a leaked map against a fan map
These images and reconstructions are not interchangeable. When comparing them, look at what each one actually establishes:
- Provenance: Is it an official Rockstar release, an image reported as a leak, or a community reconstruction?
- Detail: Does it suggest only a broad regional arrangement, or does it claim to show roads, landmarks, and boundaries?
- Confirmation: Has Rockstar authenticated it, or are judgments coming from fans and media reports?
- Version and date: When did the image or reconstruction appear, and could it reflect an earlier or incomplete build?
Without an authenticated final map, apparent matches in overall shape are not a reliable way to calculate the finished game’s size or confirm its detailed geography.
