Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Rockstar listing a release date of November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not published an equivalent comparison of the versions’ resolution, frame rate, loading times, or platform-specific features, so there is no official basis to call one console the better performer. For most players, the practical choice is the console and account ecosystem they already use—and, if buying physical, whether they are comfortable with a download code instead of a disc.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
Yes. Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 announcement names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and gives November 19, 2026 as the release date. The announcement says the extended look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That identifies the footage’s capture platform; it is not a side-by-side test and does not show that the PS5 version will look or run better than the Xbox version.
GTA 6 on PS5 vs. Xbox Series X|S: what can be compared?
Rockstar’s published platform information confirms availability, but does not provide matching technical specifications for either version. It does not establish comparative resolution, frame rate, loading time, or platform-exclusive gameplay features. The Xbox listing covers both Series X and Series S; the available information does not give separate GTA 6 performance details for those two consoles.

Which platform should you choose?
If you already own a supported console, that is the clearest practical starting point: Rockstar has confirmed the game for both platforms, while the available official details do not establish a performance winner. Consider these personal factors instead:
- Your console: Buying the game for the platform you already own avoids making a new hardware purchase based on performance claims that have not been established.
- Your account and library: Consider where you keep your games, account balance, friends list, and other platform purchases.
- Your preferred controller and online ecosystem: These are personal preferences, not evidence of a GTA 6-specific advantage.
- Your Xbox model: Rockstar confirms Xbox Series X|S support but does not provide distinct game specifications for Series X versus Series S in the cited platform information.
- Your purchase format and account region: The physical option is a code in a box, and PlayStation code redemption is tied to account region.
If you do not own either platform, compare the console purchase on its own merits—such as its wider game library and the ecosystem you want—rather than assuming GTA 6 will perform better on one. The official sources cited here do not provide a game-specific basis for choosing PS5 over Xbox Series X|S or vice versa.

Does the physical GTA 6 version include a disc?
No. Rockstar says the physical version contains a download code and that no disc will be included in the box. Its product page also describes the offering as a physical code-in-box version. Standard and Ultimate editions
Rockstar Support lists Standard and Ultimate editions. It says the Ultimate Edition Upgrade can be purchased separately after redemption of a Standard Edition code. Check the specific store listing in your country for the edition and terms offered there; Rockstar’s cited support information does not make every retailer or regional listing interchangeable. Pre-loading and physical-code availability
Rockstar says digital pre-loading for pre-orders begins November 12, 2026, at local midnight. It also says physical code-in-box availability begins November 12 to support pre-loading. PlayStation and Xbox code regions
Rockstar advises buying PlayStation download codes from a retailer in the country associated with the platform account, because redemption depends on that account’s region. The same support page says Xbox codes purchased are not region-locked. If buying a PlayStation code as a gift or from another country, confirm the account-region match before purchase.
