Grand Theft Auto VI is officially scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s dated Newswire announcement is the controlling source for that date. The official GTA VI hub, Rockstar Support and Take-Two’s investor materials corroborate the release information. A post, leak video, edited screenshot or retailer placeholder is not confirmation unless it leads back to a dated first-party document.
The confirmed GTA 6 release date
Rockstar Games has set Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch for November 19, 2026. That is the latest dated release announcement and supersedes the earlier May 26, 2026 target.

The announced launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s support information does not announce a PC edition or a PC release date. Treating a rumored PC window as confirmed extends the official statement beyond its actual scope.

For the latest first-party material, start at Rockstar’s official site and its Newswire, then compare any corporate timing language with Take-Two’s investor-relations site. Rockstar’s official GTA VI hub and Rockstar Support are also part of the verification chain.
How the release date changed
Older announcements remain useful for understanding the timeline, but they must not replace the newest dated first-party statement.
| Date | Announcement | How to interpret it now |
|---|---|---|
| December 2023 | Rockstar and Take-Two announced GTA VI for 2025. | Historical context only; this is not the current launch date. |
| May 2, 2025 | Take-Two recorded Rockstar’s move to May 26, 2026. | Superseded by the later November 2026 announcement. |
| May 3, 2025 | The Associated Press reported the same May 26, 2026 change. | A contemporaneous report, not the controlling current source. |
| November 6, 2025 | Rockstar moved the date to November 19, 2026 and published its apology and polish explanation. | Latest dated Rockstar release-date announcement in the available record. |
| June 24, 2026 | Take-Two’s release notice said preorders would begin June 25, 2026, for a November 19 launch at $79.99. | Useful for the console launch edition and preorder timing; verify live regional details. |
| August 27, 2026 | The official GTA VI hub listed current game materials and “An Extended Look.” | A useful first-party page to bookmark for subsequent updates. |
If a page still says “2025” or “May 26, 2026” without explaining that it is historical, it is out of date. The publication date and wording of the November 6, 2025 Rockstar notice take priority.

Where Rockstar and Take-Two announce real news
Rockstar Newswire
The Newswire is the primary place to look for a new release date, delay, trailer, gameplay presentation or other major GTA VI announcement. Open the page directly rather than relying on a screenshot or an account quoting it. Check the article’s date, headline, exact wording and domain.

- Fight against Castillo’s regime in the most expansive Far Cry to date, through jungles, beaches, and Esperanza, the capital city of Yara
- Employ an arsenal of resolver weapons, backpacks, and vehicles to take down Castillo’s ruthless regime.
The official GTA VI hub
The GTA VI hub collects current first-party materials, including the “An Extended Look” item listed on August 27, 2026. It is useful as a bookmark because it gives you a stable place to check for newly added official material. A hub listing is still not a license to infer information Rockstar has not stated, such as a PC date or an unannounced edition.
Rockstar Support and Rockstar Propaganda
Support pages provide product details that may not appear in a Newswire headline, including the listed platforms, preorder information and the physical-release format. Rockstar Propaganda is another first-party channel for official messaging. Use the same checks on both: confirm the domain, publication date and the precise claim being made.
Take-Two investor relations
Take-Two’s investor-relations materials are especially useful for corporate release language, fiscal commentary and formal launch notices. They corroborated the November 19 date and recorded the June 2026 preorder timing and $79.99 console launch price. Investor material can confirm a schedule, but it does not automatically establish details that it does not mention.

A five-step method for verifying any GTA 6 update
- Open the first-party page yourself. Go to Rockstar Newswire, the official GTA VI hub, Rockstar Support or Take-Two investor relations. Do not treat a reposted image, cropped browser window or quoted social post as the source.
- Confirm the domain and publication date. A genuine announcement should resolve to rockstargames.com, support.rockstargames.com or take2games.com/ir. Record the date shown on the page; an undated image cannot establish when a claim was made.
- Read the exact scope. Identify whether the page is discussing a release date, platform, trailer, preorder, edition or price. Do not turn “available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S” into a claim that a PC version is confirmed.
- Cross-check corporate timing when appropriate. For a major schedule change or investor-facing statement, compare the Rockstar page with Take-Two’s investor materials. Agreement between the two first-party sources is stronger than a third-party summary.
- Label anything without a dated first-party page as unconfirmed. If the evidence is an insider post, leak, video, retailer placeholder or anonymous report, call it a rumor and include the date you checked. Recheck before publishing because dates, inventory, prices and platform information can change.
What a verification note should contain
- The claim being checked, such as “November 19, 2026 release date.”
- The first-party page’s domain and publication date.
- The exact wording that supports the claim.
- The geography or edition covered, if the page specifies one.
- The status: official, reported, rumor or unconfirmed.
- The date of your own check, especially for volatile preorder stock and pricing.
How to recognize fake or misleading announcements
Unsourced “insider” posts
An account can be correct by coincidence, repeat a real rumor or post a fabricated date. Followers, repost counts and a confident tone are not evidence. Until Rockstar or Take-Two publishes a dated statement, the claim remains unconfirmed.

AI-generated or edited trailer clips
Convincing footage can combine game assets, fan animation, old trailers and synthetic voice work. Look for the original upload on an official channel and compare the clip’s title, date and description. A video that exists only through reuploads does not confirm a trailer, release window or gameplay feature.
Edited screenshots
A screenshot can change a date, price, platform list or page title while preserving the site’s visual style. Follow the link in a separate browser tab and confirm that the page still contains the wording shown. If there is no live first-party page, do not publish the screenshot as an announcement.
Retailer placeholders
Stores sometimes create product pages before a publisher has finalized regional pricing, stock or a release listing. A placeholder date may be an internal field rather than information supplied by Rockstar. Treat a retailer page as a purchasing lead, not a release-date source, until a first-party announcement supports it.

Recycled old articles
Search results often resurface the 2023 2025 window or the May 26, 2026 date. Check the article’s original publication date and whether it was updated after November 6, 2025. If it presents an old date without the superseding announcement, it should not be used as current information.

Claims that a PC date is confirmed
The currently listed launch platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the cited Rockstar support material does not announce a PC edition. A leak, job listing or analyst prediction may be interesting, but it is not a confirmed PC release. Keep that distinction explicit in headlines, captions and social posts.
What is officially known about platforms, editions and preorders
| Item | Officially established detail | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Launch date | November 19, 2026 | Latest dated Rockstar announcement; older dates are superseded. |
| Listed platforms | PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S | No PC edition or PC date is announced in the cited support document. |
| Preorders | Take-Two said preorders began June 25, 2026. | Check current regional availability, seller, price and stock before purchasing. |
| Console launch price | $79.99 | Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 release notice; regional prices and taxes may differ. |
| Physical edition | Contains a download code for the game. | Confirm the code’s region and redemption requirements with the retailer. |
Rockstar Support says readers can preorder the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The physical version’s download-code format means “physical” does not necessarily mean a disc containing the complete playable game. Before ordering, verify the console version, region, seller, final price and stock on the live listing.

Use a precise headline
“GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026” is accurate when it is paired with the Rockstar announcement. “GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on every platform” is not: the official platform list is limited to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the date remains a scheduled launch.
Preserve the chronology
If you explain the delay, identify May 26, 2026 as the superseded target and November 19, 2026 as the newer Rockstar date. Do not present both dates as competing current possibilities.

Separate confirmed facts from reports
Use labels such as “official,” “reported” and “rumor” consistently. A third-party report can be cited as a report, but it cannot be upgraded to confirmation by repeating it in a headline or social caption.
Qualify prices and availability
The $79.99 figure comes from Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 release notice for the console launch edition. It is not a universal regional price, a guarantee that every retailer has stock or a promise that later editions will cost the same.
What to do when sources disagree
Resolve conflicts by ranking evidence rather than averaging dates.
- Prefer the newest dated Rockstar statement for the game’s schedule and content.
- Use Rockstar Support for current platform, preorder and product-format details.
- Use Take-Two investor relations to confirm corporate timing and formal release notices.
- Use reputable reporting to provide context, while preserving its status as reporting.
- Mark leaks, screenshots, retailer placeholders and anonymous posts as unconfirmed unless a first-party page later verifies them.
Compare five attributes before deciding that two claims conflict: source authority, publication date, claim type, geography or edition, and confirmation status. A retailer’s regional price and Take-Two’s US-listed launch price may both be accurate because they describe different markets; a 2025 article and a 2026 Rockstar notice cannot both be the current release date.
Preorder and launch-day checks
- Confirm that the listing is for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, not a placeholder for another platform.
- Check whether the product is a physical package containing a download code.
- Verify the redemption region before buying from an overseas seller.
- Compare the live price with the stated $79.99 US launch-edition figure and account for local taxes or currency conversion.
- Check stock and the seller immediately before linking or recommending a listing.
- Keep the publisher’s November 19, 2026 schedule separate from any retailer’s estimated delivery date.
A practical checklist before you publish or share
- Have you opened the original Rockstar or Take-Two page instead of relying on a repost?
- Did you record the page’s publication date and quote its exact scope?
- Does your wording say “scheduled” rather than implying an irreversible guarantee?
- Are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S the only platforms you present as officially listed?
- Have you avoided claiming that a PC version or date is confirmed?
- Did you identify May 26, 2026 as superseded rather than current?
- If you mention preorders, did you check region, retailer, price, edition and stock?
- Have you labeled every leak, anonymous report, edited image and placeholder as unconfirmed?
- Did you recheck volatile details immediately before publication?
Bottom line on the GTA 6 release date
The official schedule is November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Newswire is the controlling release-date source; the GTA VI hub, Rockstar Support, Rockstar Propaganda and Take-Two investor relations form the practical verification chain. Ignore any supposed delay, trailer, price, platform or PC announcement that cannot be traced to a dated first-party page, and describe unverified material as rumor rather than news.
