Rockstar announced the delay on November 6, 2025, and its game page still lists that date as of October 8, 2026. That makes November 19 the current announced date—not a guarantee that the schedule cannot change.
Why was GTA 6 delayed?
Rockstar described the November 2025 change as an additional delay. The company said the extra time would allow the team to polish the game and meet player expectations. That is Rockstar’s stated reason for the delay.

When can you preload GTA 6 or get the boxed version?
November 12, 2026, is the date Rockstar gives for two separate arrangements: digital preloading is scheduled to begin at local midnight, and shipping or pickup for physical Standard Edition copies is expected to start. These dates are not the game’s launch date. Follow the instructions from your platform and retailer, since preload details and fulfillment can vary.

#1 Best Overall
- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Rockstar’s support information also warns that physical-game codes can be tied to platform-account regions. It recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as your account to reduce the risk of activation problems. PlayStation codes have region rules; Rockstar says Xbox codes are not region-locked. Read Rockstar Support’s GTA VI edition and platform information.
Which platforms is GTA 6 coming to?
Rockstar currently lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The reviewed official announcements do not give a release date for PC or other platforms, so there is no official date to report for them.

What are the GTA 6 editions, and is the physical version a disc?
Rockstar lists Standard and Ultimate editions. The physical Standard Edition is a code-in-box product, not a disc: the box contains a digital download code. Rockstar says Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade digitally through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefront after redeeming their Standard Edition code. The Ultimate Edition itself is not available as a physical version.

Rockstar’s June 24, 2026, preorder announcement described a Vintage Vice City Pack for purchases made before November 20 and one month of GTA+ with a digital preorder. Those are time-sensitive offer terms, not a promise that either offer is still available. Check the current listing and terms with Rockstar or the retailer before buying.
