The “impressively polished” verdict belongs to Thiago Trevisan’s May 7, 2025 HotHardware article—not to a performance test.
What the May 2025 screenshot coverage actually says
Thiago Trevisan’s May 7, 2025 HotHardware article describes atmospheric settings, detailed characters, water, and an open world that feels large. Those are visual impressions of selected images, not independently measured graphics results. The article’s “massive” headline does not establish how many screenshots Rockstar released; the available source text provides no verifiable count or complete inventory. Read the HotHardware article.

Do the screenshots mean GTA 6 is nearly finished?
No conclusion about development progress follows from the screenshots alone. A still image cannot establish frame rate, performance during play, the quality of gameplay systems, final optimization, or whether development is complete.
Rockstar’s May 2, 2025 delay announcement said the company needed more time to meet players’ expectations: “We need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” That statement explains the delay at the time; it is not evidence of the game’s current development status. What Rockstar’s later in-game footage adds
Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 extended look was described as “Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.” That is stronger evidence of how a specific presentation looks than a set of static promotional screenshots, but the claim applies to that extended look only. It does not establish representative performance across the entire game or prove how every promotional image was produced. See Rockstar’s official GTA VI information.

As of October 8, 2026, Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
