How does the GTA 6 wanted system reportedly work?
According to Nelson, a crime reaches law enforcement only if someone witnesses it or an alarm is triggered. That suggests the reported system has a distinction between committing a crime and having it reported; the available information does not document every circumstance that can trigger a report.

The extended-look sequence analyzed by GamesRadar+ shows a wanted meter climbing to six stars. That is the highest level shown in the reported footage, and it differs from GTA V’s five-star cap. Rockstar has not published a full written account of how each star changes police behavior, so six stars should be understood as what the footage demonstrates—not a complete star-by-star guide.

In the sequence described by GamesRadar+, on-screen indicators reflect details police know or can recognize about Jason and Lucia. The shown cues include their clothes, faces, vehicle, and the fact that they are together. The report does not establish that these are the only recognition factors, or that each has a separate timer.

How do you lose the cops in GTA 6?
Nelson’s advice for a three-star pursuit in the city is to leave the streets and continue on foot through alleys rather than assume a vehicle is the best escape. He says getting away in a vehicle can be challenging unless it is very fast or a sports bike. The same comments describe movement options such as running, exiting a car, jumping, and climbing fences. This is attributed guidance, not a guaranteed tactic for every location or wanted level.

The reported sequence also shows the pair changing vehicles, while Nelson says separating can reduce police perception. Those actions address different recognition cues: a vehicle change affects the vehicle cue shown, while splitting up affects the group association. The report does not establish a definitive ranking of escape tactics or promise either action will end pursuit.

What do the red stars mean?
GamesRadar+ describes the stars changing from white to red after direct contact with police breaks, interpreting the red state as continued searching rather than active pursuit. The visual transition is shown in the reported sequence, but Rockstar has not fully documented its precise meaning or rules in the material reviewed. Treat it as an apparent search phase, not a confirmed timer or a guarantee that the police have stopped looking.

What remains unknown about GTA 6 heat?
- How long heat persists after a crime or pursuit.
- Whether clothing, face, vehicle, and group-recognition cues each have independent timers.
- Exactly how changing clothes or appearance affects police recognition.
- How police response escalates at each star, and the full transition from active pursuit to search.
Rob Nelson has also said Rockstar aims to make mission systems such as wanted levels and robberies feel consistent with open-world play. That describes design intent; it does not confirm every implementation detail.

As of October 11, 2026, Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page lists a November 19, 2026 release date and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game has not yet been released, so the wanted-system details above remain pre-release reporting and footage analysis rather than verified gameplay experience. Rockstar’s official media listing includes the extended look and trailers, but the official material reviewed does not provide a written wanted-system manual.
