GTA 6’s Giant Paris Billboard Has a Design Problem: The Guns Are Missing

A giant Grand Theft Auto VI billboard wrapped around the Les Mercuriales towers in Bagnolet, near Paris, does not exactly match the game’s familiar cover art. The outdoor version appears to remove Lucia’s pistol and an assault rifle shown in another panel, while preserving the rest of the pink-and-white composition featuring Lucia and Jason.

That visible change is real; its cause is not. Reports from Creative Bloq and Joking Joystick identify the altered Paris execution, but neither cites an explanation from Rockstar Games, the tower owner, the advertising partner or a regulator. It is therefore too early to call this a Rockstar content change or confirmed censorship.

What is different on the Paris billboard?

The Bagnolet installation recreates the recognizable GTA VI cover-art layout at architectural scale. Lucia and Jason remain, as does the overall arrangement and color treatment. The discrepancy is confined to weapons visible in the standard illustration: Lucia’s handgun is absent, and an assault rifle shown in another cover panel is also missing.

That distinction matters. The evidence concerns a local advertising execution, not the game itself. Nothing in the cited reports indicates that weapons were removed from the game, its official key art everywhere, or its marketing campaign worldwide.

Where it is

Les Mercuriales is a pair of landmark towers in Bagnolet, in the Paris metropolitan area. The banner is attached to the buildings rather than displayed as a conventional street poster, making the alteration especially noticeable when viewers compare photographs with the standard cover image.

Was GTA 6 censored?

There is no confirmed answer. The observable fact is that two firearms do not appear in this Paris billboard. No published explanation identifies who ordered the change or why.

  • Confirmed: the Paris banner differs from the standard illustration by omitting Lucia’s pistol and another assault rifle.
  • Not confirmed: that Rockstar Games made the decision, that a French regulator required it, or that the change reflects the game’s content.
  • Possible but unproven explanations: a venue policy, an advertising clearance decision, local rules concerning weapon imagery, or an adaptation made for the physical artwork.

Until one of the responsible parties comments, describing the result as “censorship” goes beyond the evidence. The safer description is a weapon-reduced version of the cover art used for one Paris-area placement.

Reason for difference Not applicable No official explanation published
What the evidence establishes Reference artwork A localized outdoor advertising adaptation

It is part of a much larger GTA VI campaign

The Paris banner is one piece of a broader promotional push. In Miami, a large “Welcome to Vice City” installation is planned for the Kaseya Center. GamesRadar reports that Miami-Dade County will collect $975,000 from that sign.

Planning documents reported by iGrandTheftAuto.com describe a substantial roof-mounted structure rather than a simple printed banner. The sign covers 4,690 square feet and requires 21,000 pounds of new structural steel. Major sections are listed with helicopter-lift loads of approximately 4,200 pounds and 4,950 pounds. The approved arrangement allows the GTA VI artwork to remain the featured copy for up to two years.

What the Miami sign says and how it is lit

The installation combines the words “WELCOME TO,” the pink-and-white “Vice City” script and the VI logo. The planning description specifies static illumination. Those details show how the campaign is being adapted to different venues: the Paris execution wraps existing towers, while the Miami promotion is engineered as a large, illuminated arena sign.

What the county document says

The Miami-Dade Letter of Intent quoted by iGrandTheftAuto.com says: “The proposed copy is an onsite sign that will promote Rockstar Games, which is a major Arena sponsor with merchandise that will be available for sale at the Arena, among other promotions.” That wording ties the Kaseya Center sign to an arena sponsorship and onsite merchandise promotion; it does not explain the missing weapons in Paris.

Why the alteration is attracting attention

Grand Theft Auto artwork commonly uses weapons as part of its visual identity, so removing them is easy to spot even when the rest of the design remains intact. A billboard also reaches audiences who may never see the game’s full cover online, making the localized treatment look, at first glance, like an official redesign.

Jurisdiction and venue are important variables. A building owner, outdoor-advertising contractor or local approval process may impose conditions that do not apply to digital artwork or displays in another country. That is a plausible explanation, not a documented finding.

What to watch for next

  • An explanation from Rockstar Games or its advertising partners identifying who approved the Paris artwork.
  • Comments from Les Mercuriales, the building owner or a French authority about weapon imagery on the installation.
  • Photographs of other GTA VI billboards showing whether the weapon removals are unique to Bagnolet or used in multiple markets.
  • Clarification of whether the Paris design was a deliberate alternate key visual or a venue-specific edit.

The Bottom Line

The Paris billboard’s design problem is a mismatch, not a confirmed game change: two guns visible in the standard GTA VI cover art are missing from the Bagnolet installation, and no official source has explained why. The broader campaign is clearly escalating in scale, from a tower-wrapped Paris advert to a 4,690-square-foot, steel-supported Vice City sign at Miami’s Kaseya Center.
