That makes the 440 million figure in the original headline an earlier milestone, not the latest reported total. “Sold-in” is the publisher’s wording; the announcement does not establish an independently audited count of copies bought by players.
What does “sold-in” mean here?
The June announcement reports units sold-in worldwide. It does not provide a title-by-title breakdown of the total or identify how many units were sold to consumers. Take-Two’s “Net Bookings” metric is a separate financial measure: the company defines it as the net amount of products and services sold digitally or sold-in physically during a period, plus licensing fees, merchandise, in-game advertising, strategy guides and publisher incentives. Net Bookings should not be treated as a unit-sales count.

The figures are rounded “over” totals from Take-Two, not exact counts. Do not subtract the February franchise figure from the June figure to calculate sales in that interval, or subtract GTA V’s total from the franchise total to estimate the rest of the series: the rounded values do not support those calculations. Take-Two did not give a title-by-title explanation for the change between the two franchise milestones.
What Take-Two’s sales figure does—and does not—say
The 470 million figure is for the franchise as a whole, not just GTA V, GTA Online or an upcoming release. Take-Two’s February filing separately listed GTA V at over 220 million units sold-in worldwide. Its fiscal 2026 results also named GTA Online and GTA V among the largest contributors to the company’s net bookings and GAAP revenue; those are company-wide reporting categories and do not disclose a GTA-only revenue total.

Take-Two reported that recurrent consumer spending grew 17% and accounted for 78% of its annual net bookings in fiscal 2026. Those figures apply to Take-Two’s business overall, not specifically to Grand Theft Auto. The company defines recurrent consumer spending as spending from ongoing engagement, including virtual currency, add-on content, in-game purchases and in-game advertising.

Take-Two’s June 24 announcement scheduled Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is a planned launch date, not evidence that GTA VI contributed sales to the reported franchise milestone. The announcement does not establish any GTA VI units sold.

Rockstar Support says GTA VI will be offered in Standard and Ultimate editions. It also says the boxed physical version contains a digital download code, not a disc. Retailer shipping or pickup was expected to begin November 12, 2026; that is an announced expectation, not confirmation of stock at a particular store.
For code compatibility, Rockstar Support says PlayStation redemption is tied to the region of the account and recommends purchasing from a retailer in that country. It describes Xbox codes as not region-locked. Check the current support page and the relevant account region before buying. Rockstar also says Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate upgrade separately through the platform storefront.
