Rockstar says the mode “restores the look and feel of the sky in the original games.” Its update notes confirm the feature and list other fixes and improvements, but do not establish that every change from the mobile releases was carried over.
What is Classic Lighting in GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition?
Classic Lighting is a toggleable visual mode added in update 1.112. Rockstar’s official update notes describe its purpose narrowly: restoring the look and feel of the original games’ skies. The notes do not name a spokesperson or detail how the mode changes lighting beyond that description.
The update concerns Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the three games in the collection. The Definitive Edition’s broader product description separately touts new lighting and environmental upgrades, high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, and controls and targeting inspired by Grand Theft Auto V. Classic Lighting is a specific addition, not a description of all those broader upgrades.
Which platforms got the GTA Trilogy Classic Lighting update?
Rockstar’s version 1.112 notes list PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The notes give two dates: November 12, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and November 13, 2024, for all the listed platforms. The update-notes page was last updated November 25, 2024.

- Grand Theft Auto III: It all starts in Liberty City. With the revolutionary freedom to go anywhere and jack anyone, Grand Theft Auto III puts the center of the criminal underworld at your fingertips, if you have enough guts to take it.
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: Welcome to the 1980s. From the decade of big hair and pastel suits comes the story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile.
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: Five years ago, Carl 'CJ' Johnson escaped the haze of Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs, and corruption.
Is the mobile port’s Classic Lighting in the console and PC version?
The update notes confirm a Classic Lighting mode in the console and PC editions and describe it as restoring the original games’ skies. They do not say that it is identical to a mobile-port feature or that every improvement made for the mobile versions was included. The evidence supports the specific sky-focused description, not a claim of a complete mobile-to-console/PC feature transfer.

Rockstar lists the collection’s release date as November 11, 2021. Its later Classic Lighting addition is therefore a post-release update to the Definitive Edition, rather than a separate game.
