The biggest legitimate Story Mode payday comes from pairing Lester’s assassination missions with stock-market trades—but timing matters. Complete the required Hotel Assassination when the story calls for it, then save Lester’s other four assassination missions until after the final heist, when you have more money to invest. For cash before then, rely on story missions and heists, with smaller opportunities such as armored trucks and selected side activities as supplements.

| Method | When it fits | Potential and repeatability | Cost or dependency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lester assassination missions and stocks | One mission is required during the story; save the other four until after the final heist | Best-supported major endgame opportunity; mission-linked price movements are more predictable than ordinary trading, but returns vary | Requires investment cash; BAWSAQ listings depend on internet access and Rockstar services |
| Main story missions and heists | Throughout the campaign | Core source of story cash; heists are mission-based | Crew choices affect the take |
| Armored trucks | Useful between heists | Repeatable interim cash; not a replacement for the late-game stock opportunity | No upfront cost is stated in the reviewed guide |
| Valuable random events | Early and middle parts of the game | Generally low-to-medium potential and usually limited repeatability | Availability depends on encountering the event |
| Nuclear Waste collection | After the required setup is available | Vandal’s 2026 guide lists $940,000 gross | Requires buying the Sonar Collections Dock; the cited amount is gross, not guaranteed net profit |
| Property missions and income | When you can afford a property and its related activities | Varies substantially; generally a longer-term option | May require upfront capital |
| Other stock opportunities | Whenever you can afford to invest and monitor prices | Potential gains are less predictable than Lester’s scripted trades | Market movements vary; use a separate save before a large trade |
How to make the most from Lester’s assassination missions
Do the required mission, but delay the optional ones
The Hotel Assassination is required for story progression, so complete it when the campaign requires it. If your aim is to maximize investment capital, hold the other four Lester assassination missions until after the final heist. The larger cash pool gives you more to invest when the mission-linked stock opportunities arrive.
Use the mission-linked stocks as a sequence
HowToPlayHub’s stock guide pairs each mission with these trades. Prices can move differently across playthroughs, so treat the list as a guide to what to watch—not a promise of a particular return.

| Mission | Stock to watch | Trade timing described by the guide |
|---|---|---|
| The Hotel Assassination | Betta Pharmaceuticals (BET); Bilkinton Research (BIL) | Buy BET before the mission; consider BIL after its price falls |
| The Multi Target Assassination | Debonaire (DEB); Redwood Cigarettes (RWC) | Buy DEB before the mission; consider RWC after its price falls |
| The Vice Assassination | Fruit (FRT); Facade (FAC) | Buy FRT before the mission; consider FAC after its price falls |
| The Bus Assassination | Vapid (VAP) | Consider buying after the mission, when its price has fallen |
| The Construction Assassination | GoldCoast (GCD) | Buy before the mission |
Save before trading and manage all three portfolios
- Make a separate save before a major trade or assassination mission, so you can recover if the market does not move as expected.
- Check the relevant stock price in the in-game market before investing. LCN’s useful mission movements are driven mainly by Story Mode events. BAWSAQ is available in Story Mode too, but depends on an internet connection and Rockstar services; confirm that it loads current listings before relying on it.
- Repeat any trade separately as Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. Each protagonist has a distinct balance and portfolio, so investing with one does not invest for the others.
- Watch the portfolio after the mission or rebound and sell when the rise stops. Do not rely on an old guide’s fixed percentage as a guaranteed peak.
Build your cash before the endgame trades
Prioritize main missions and heists
Story missions and heists provide the cash base for later investing. Crew selection can change a heist’s take: specialists receive larger shares, while inexperienced recruits may make costly mistakes. Consider the trade-off between a lower cut and the risk of a less capable crew when choosing your approach.
Use armored trucks as an interim option
A September 2026 guide describes armored trucks as useful repeatable cash between heists. They can bridge the gap while you progress through the campaign, but they are not presented as a substitute for the larger late-game investment opportunity.
Rank #2
- Experience the world of Grand Theft Auto V like never before with the power of the PlayStation 4.
- Explore the City of Los Santos, the countryside and even the ocean.
- Play through an epic single player experience using three very different characters.
- Join your friends in GTA Online and see what trouble you can cause.
- Play golf, tennis, see a film or call someone and just hang out.
Take valuable random events when they appear
Some random events offer useful early- or mid-game cash. Their potential is generally low to medium and they are usually limited in repeatability, so treat them as bonuses rather than a dependable income loop.
Weigh the cost of collections and properties
Vandal’s 2026 guide lists $940,000 gross for Nuclear Waste collection after buying the Sonar Collections Dock. Because that figure is gross and the dock requires upfront spending, it should not be read as guaranteed profit. Property income and related missions also vary, and the property purchase can make them a poor fit when you need cash quickly.

- Ordinary stock trading as a sure thing: incidental story-driven price movements may create opportunities, but they are less predictable than Lester’s mission-linked trades. Keep a separate save before a large investment.
- Unlimited-money cheats: the reviewed guide reports no legitimate money cheat in GTA V. Claims about unlimited cash often rely on patched or inconsistent exploits.
- GTA Online money methods: Online uses a separate economy. Its businesses and activities are not Story Mode strategies.
