1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC with a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, install NVIDIA’s current GeForce Security Update Driver 582.78, released September 30, 2026, from NVIDIA’s official driver page or through GeForce Experience. The package supports the GTX 1050 Ti, but NVIDIA says Pascal GPUs such as this one no longer receive Game Ready Drivers. Updating can improve compatibility, stability and security; it is not a guaranteed FPS upgrade.
What the current GTX 1050 Ti driver actually is
The GTX 1050 Ti is a Pascal-generation GeForce GPU. NVIDIA’s 582.78 page identifies the GTX 1050 Ti as a supported Pascal card and lists Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 compatibility. NVIDIA describes 582.78 as a GeForce Security Update Driver because Pascal, Maxwell and Volta GeForce products are no longer supported by the current Game Ready Driver branch.

That distinction matters when you search for a “latest gaming driver.” A security-update package can correct driver defects with security implications and preserve operating-system compatibility, but it is not the same as a new Game Ready release tuned for newly launched games. NVIDIA’s page says directly that it released a software security update display driver for Maxwell, Volta and Pascal GPUs that are no longer supported by Game Ready Drivers.
An older example is Game Ready Driver 556.12 from 2024. Its release page included the GTX 1050 Ti in the supported GeForce 10 series and described gaming-focused support for releases current at that time. That historical listing confirms that the card was once in the Game Ready program; it does not make 556.12 a newer or better choice than the current security branch in 2026.

What a driver update can—and cannot—change
- Compatibility: A current package can help Windows and software recognize the GPU correctly and remain compatible with supported Windows editions.
- Stability: A corrected driver may resolve crashes, rendering errors or launch problems caused by an existing installation.
- Security: Security-update releases address driver issues that may have security impact.
- Performance: There is no official benchmark in the available NVIDIA material showing a universal FPS increase for the GTX 1050 Ti. If your frame rate is limited by the GPU, CPU, memory, temperatures or game settings, installing 582.78 will not remove that hardware bottleneck.
Measure any change in the same game, scene, resolution and graphics settings. A smoother result after updating can reflect a compatibility fix rather than a general increase in the card’s rendering capability.
Choose the correct package before downloading
Desktop GTX 1050 Ti
On a desktop, use NVIDIA’s driver selector and choose the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, your exact Windows edition and the desktop package offered for that selection. Windows 10 must be the 64-bit edition for the 582.78 package listed by NVIDIA.
Notebook GTX 1050 Ti
Laptop manufacturers can customize power management, display switching and other firmware-dependent features. NVIDIA advises notebook owners to check the laptop manufacturer for a certified driver. Compare the OEM package with NVIDIA’s package before installing; use the OEM release when the manufacturer requires it for the model’s display or power features.

Check the installed model first
- Press Windows + X and open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters. Confirm that the entry is GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, rather than an integrated adapter or a different GeForce model.
- For a second check, open NVIDIA Control Panel, select Help, then System Information, and note the GPU and current driver version. On systems using the NVIDIA app, its system or driver screen provides the same identification.
If Device Manager shows only Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, do not guess at a package. First establish whether Windows is detecting the card and whether the machine is a desktop or a notebook.
Manual update procedure
1. Download from NVIDIA
- Open NVIDIA’s official GeForce driver page.
- Select the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, the correct Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 option, and the package type that matches your desktop or notebook.
- Download the current package shown for that selection. As of September 30, 2026, NVIDIA lists version 582.78 as the security-update driver for the GTX 1050 Ti.
Do not substitute a driver for a similar-looking GTX 1050, GTX 1060 or another series. The installer checks hardware, but selecting the model yourself reduces the chance of downloading the wrong package.
2. Prepare Windows
- Save work and close games, launchers, video editors and other GPU-intensive applications.
- Keep the downloaded installer available until you have restarted and verified the result.
- On a notebook, connect AC power and confirm whether the manufacturer requires its certified graphics package.
3. Run the NVIDIA installer
- Open the downloaded NVIDIA installer and follow its prompts.
- Allow the installer to replace the existing display-driver files when prompted.
- If the installer offers a clean installation option, use it when you are troubleshooting a corrupted or unstable existing installation. A clean installation resets the NVIDIA driver components instead of retaining the previous configuration.
- Let the process finish without launching a game or shutting down Windows.
4. Restart and verify
- Restart Windows even if the installer does not insist on an immediate restart.
- Return to Device Manager, open the GTX 1050 Ti’s Properties, choose the Driver tab and confirm that the version and date changed as expected.
- Alternatively, use NVIDIA Control Panel’s Help > System Information or the driver screen in the NVIDIA app to verify the installed version.
5. Test one affected game
Launch the game that prompted the update and test a repeatable scene. Keep resolution, graphics preset, frame-rate cap and background applications consistent with your previous test. Record whether the original symptom—such as a crash, display error or failure to launch—has changed before altering several settings at once.

Using GeForce Experience or the NVIDIA app
Automatic checking is convenient when you do not want to revisit the driver page. NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience guidance says the software checks NVIDIA’s servers for the latest GeForce drivers each day and notifies you when a new driver is available. Open its driver section, let it identify the installed GTX 1050 Ti, review the offered package and start the installation.

For a desktop, the utility is a practical alternative to manual selection. If the utility cannot identify the card, use Device Manager and NVIDIA’s manual selector to resolve the model and operating-system details first.
Security update versus historical Game Ready driver
| Driver | Release timing | GTX 1050 Ti and Windows coverage | Purpose described by NVIDIA |
|---|---|---|---|
| GeForce Security Update Driver 582.78 | September 30, 2026 | GTX 1050 Ti; Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 | Security update for Pascal, Maxwell and Volta GPUs that no longer receive Game Ready Drivers |
| Game Ready Driver 556.12 | 2024 | GTX 1050 Ti in the supported GeForce 10 series | Gaming-focused support for releases current at that time |
For a normal 2026 installation, 582.78 is the relevant current branch listed for the GTX 1050 Ti. The 556.12 entry is useful historical context, not evidence that an older Game Ready package should replace the current security update. Only consider an older package when you are deliberately troubleshooting a regression and have confirmed that it matches your Windows edition and hardware.

Troubleshooting common update problems
The installer says there is no compatible hardware
- Recheck that the card is actually a GTX 1050 Ti in Device Manager or NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Confirm that you selected Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, not a different Windows edition.
- On a notebook, compare the package with the manufacturer’s certified driver and try the OEM package if the laptop requires customized graphics support.
- Restart Windows and run the installer again if Device Manager has not refreshed after a hardware or driver change.
The GTX 1050 Ti is missing from Device Manager
Look under Display adapters and check for a disabled device or an entry with a warning icon. Use Device Manager’s hardware-scan command, then restart Windows. If the card remains absent, the issue may be detection, connection, power or hardware rather than the driver package; an installer cannot update a device that Windows does not enumerate.
Windows starts with a black screen or the game crashes after installation
- Restart once more and test the desktop before opening the game.
- Repeat the NVIDIA installation and choose the clean-installation option if it is offered.
- If the problem began immediately with the new package, open the GTX 1050 Ti’s Properties > Driver tab in Device Manager and use Roll Back Driver when Windows makes a previous package available.
- Test the game again with its graphics settings unchanged. If the crash persists, separate driver symptoms from game, operating-system or hardware faults rather than repeatedly reinstalling the same package.
FPS is still low
A security driver is not a promise of higher frame rates. Check the game’s resolution and quality settings, CPU and RAM usage, GPU temperature, background workloads and whether the GTX 1050 Ti is simply below the game’s recommended hardware. A clean, compatible installation can remove a software problem, but it cannot turn the Pascal card into a newer performance tier.

When updating is not enough
If the GTX 1050 Ti is detected, the current compatible driver installs cleanly and the same game remains too slow, investigate the rest of the system before buying another driver package. Compare the game’s requirements with the card, check CPU and memory limits, and monitor temperatures during play. For a desktop that consistently falls short of the games you want to run, replacing the physical GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card may be the durable solution. Current listings, stock, pricing and compatibility vary, so verify those details for your system before purchasing.
