guidlgs.dll is a legacy Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal component, not a Windows system file. If Windows reports that guidlgs.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or remove the old Kaspersky installation that is requesting it rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
| Detail | What is known |
|---|---|
| File | guidlgs.dll |
| Description | Kaspersky Anti-Virus GUI Part |
| Associated software | Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal, also identified in older inventories as Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations |
| Publisher | Kaspersky Labs |
| File type | Historical 32-bit application DLL |
| Typical location | A Kaspersky application folder under Program Files or Program Files (x86) |
| Current status | A legacy component. Current Kaspersky installers should not be assumed to contain it |
Historical file records identify a version such as 5.0.121.1 and a size of about 548 KB, but those details come from old third-party inventories rather than a current Kaspersky product manifest. They are useful for identification, not a guarantee that every copy has the same metadata.

The safest fix: repair or reinstall Kaspersky
A missing guidlgs.dll usually means the old Kaspersky program is damaged, incomplete, or partly removed. The definitive repair is to reinstall the owning application from Kaspersky’s official download channel.

1. Check whether Kaspersky is still installed
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Kaspersky.
- If Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal or another old Kaspersky product appears, select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall and follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
If the program opens but reports the missing DLL when you launch it, do not copy a replacement file into its folder. Remove and reinstall the complete application instead.
2. Download the current product from Kaspersky
Use Kaspersky’s official downloads page or the official download page for the product you intend to install. Avoid search results that offer an individual guidlgs.dll file.
After downloading the installer:
- Close other applications.
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Accept the license terms.
- Allow the installer to remove or replace the damaged installation if it offers that choice.
- Finish setup and restart Windows.
- Open Kaspersky from the Start menu.
The repair worked if Kaspersky opens without the guidlgs.dll message and the old startup error no longer appears. If the installer refuses to continue, or the uninstall is incomplete, use the cleanup procedure below.
Remove a broken installation with Kaspersky’s removal tool
A legacy Kaspersky installation can leave behind services, startup entries, or application references after a failed uninstall. Kaspersky provides an official removal tool, commonly known as kavremover, for this situation.
Use it when:
- Kaspersky is listed in Apps but will not uninstall
- the installer says an older product is already present
- the DLL error appears at every startup after Kaspersky was supposedly removed
- Kaspersky files or services remain after an incomplete uninstall
Before using a removal tool, save open work and make sure you have the installer for the replacement security product available.
- Download the Kaspersky removal tool from Kaspersky’s official support site.
- Right-click the downloaded tool and select Run as administrator.
- Enter the displayed security code if requested.
- Select the detected Kaspersky product.
- Confirm removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Check Settings → Apps → Installed apps again.
- Install a supported Kaspersky product from Kaspersky’s official download channel, or leave the old product removed if you no longer want it.
The removal succeeded if the old Kaspersky entry disappears and Windows no longer displays the DLL error at startup. If the error remains, continue to the startup-entry check.
Remove a leftover startup reference
If Kaspersky is no longer installed but Windows still shows the error during boot, the message may come from a stale shortcut, scheduled task, service, or startup entry. In that case, reinstalling Kaspersky is not necessary if your goal is only to remove the old software.

- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Startup.
- Look for an entry clearly associated with the old Kaspersky installation.
- Turn that entry off.
- Restart Windows.
You can also check Task Manager:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps on Windows 11, or Startup on Windows 10.
- Select an old Kaspersky entry.
- Choose Disable.
- Restart.
Disable only entries that clearly belong to the removed Kaspersky installation. Do not disable an unknown item merely because it has a similar name.
Check the Task Scheduler
- Press the Windows key and search for Task Scheduler.
- Open it as administrator.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks whose names clearly identify the old Kaspersky product.
- Double-click a task and inspect its Actions tab.
- If it points to an old Kaspersky folder or executable that no longer exists, right-click the task and select Delete.
If you are unsure what a task does, leave it alone and use the official Kaspersky removal tool instead.
Check quarantine before restoring anything
An antivirus product may have quarantined or deleted the DLL. This can happen after a detection, cleanup operation, or corrupted installation.
If your security software identifies guidlgs.dll as part of the trusted Kaspersky installation:
- Open the security product.
- Open Quarantine or Protection history.
- Locate the detection.
- Check the original file path.
- Restore it only if the path belongs to the genuine Kaspersky application directory and the detection is confirmed as a false positive.
- Update the security definitions.
- Run another scan.
Restoring a standalone DLL from quarantine is not the preferred repair. Reinstalling the complete Kaspersky product replaces the file together with its related files and dependencies. Do not restore a file that was found in a temporary folder, a download directory, or an unexpected application path.
Confirm the file path before trusting it
A legitimate legacy copy would normally be beside the old Kaspersky executable, in a path similar to:
C:Program FilesKaspersky LabKaspersky Anti-Virus Personalguidlgs.dll
On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit application may instead be under:
C:Program Files (x86)Kaspersky LabKaspersky Anti-Virus Personalguidlgs.dll
The exact folder can vary. The important point is that the DLL should be inside the application’s own Kaspersky directory, not in a Windows system directory.

A copy found in any of these locations deserves extra scrutiny:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
C:Users<name>Downloads
C:Users<name>AppDataLocalTemp
The filename alone does not prove that a file is genuine. If the file is outside a Kaspersky installation directory, run an up-to-date full security scan and do not load it manually.
Do not copy guidlgs.dll into System32 or SysWOW64
guidlgs.dll is not a Windows component. It does not belong in System32 or SysWOW64, even when Windows is 64-bit.
A 64-bit Windows system can run a historical 32-bit application through its compatibility layer, but the application’s DLL normally stays beside that application. Copying a DLL into a Windows directory can:
- leave the original installation broken
- create a version mismatch
- cause a dependent module to fail
- make DLL search-order problems harder to diagnose
- introduce an untrusted file into a protected location
Download sites offering individual DLL files also create the risk of malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible version, or a file that does not solve the underlying damaged installation.
regsvr32 is not a routine fix
Do not run regsvr32 guidlgs.dll just because the file ends in .dll.
The regsvr32 utility is intended for DLLs that provide the DllRegisterServer entry point. A graphical application DLL such as this one may not expose that function. Running the command can produce an error stating that the module loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.

Use regsvr32 only when the software publisher specifically instructs you to register that exact DLL. For guidlgs.dll, repairing or reinstalling the complete Kaspersky application is the appropriate approach.
Run DISM and SFC only as secondary checks
Microsoft’s DISM and System File Checker tools repair protected Windows components. They generally do not restore third-party Kaspersky files, so they are not the primary fix for guidlgs.dll.
Run them if Windows has other symptoms, such as damaged built-in applications, unexplained system errors, or failed Windows components.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it found no integrity violations or repaired corrupted Windows files. If the DLL message remains, return to the Kaspersky repair or removal steps.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slow and inconclusive. Outbyte PC Repair can perform a free scan that shows which system issues it detects; repairs are handled by the full version, but reinstalling the Kaspersky program remains the definitive fix for this application DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTry System Restore after a recent change
System Restore may help if the error began immediately after a Kaspersky update, cleanup operation, or software removal and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Choose a different restore point if available.
- Select a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Next, review the affected programs, and choose Finish.
- Restart Windows.
System Restore does not normally replace personal documents, but it can change applications, drivers, and system settings. If the error began because Kaspersky was incompletely removed, the official removal tool is usually cleaner than rolling back the entire system.
Do not install drivers or runtimes as the first response
guidlgs.dll is not established as a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, .NET component, device driver, or Windows Features file. Installing those components is not a supported way to obtain it.
Likewise, Device Manager cannot repair this application DLL. If you are also seeing unrelated hardware problems:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the affected hardware category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs an update.
Do not uninstall a device simply to address the Kaspersky DLL message. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what it finds; driver installation is handled by the full version, and it will not replace the need to repair or remove the Kaspersky installation causing this error.
If the message says “specified module could not be found”
This wording does not always mean that guidlgs.dll itself is absent. Windows may find the file but fail to load one of its dependencies.
Do not solve that by downloading several DLLs individually. Instead:
- Note the full executable path shown in the error, if one is provided.
- Check whether that executable belongs to the old Kaspersky installation.
- Uninstall the old Kaspersky product.
- Run the official Kaspersky removal tool if necessary.
- Restart Windows.
- Install a supported Kaspersky product if you still need one.
Reinstalling the complete application restores the expected group of files and avoids guessing which dependency is missing.

Frequently asked questions
Is guidlgs.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with the legacy Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal application. It should not be placed in System32 or SysWOW64.
Is guidlgs.dll malware?
The name alone does not establish that. A copy in the correct old Kaspersky application directory may be legitimate. A copy elsewhere is suspicious and should be scanned rather than trusted.
Why is an old Kaspersky DLL appearing on Windows 10 or Windows 11?
A legacy Kaspersky installation, partial uninstall, stale startup entry, backup, or old application folder may remain on the computer. The presence of the file does not mean current Kaspersky software still uses it.
Should I download guidlgs.dll separately?
No. Random DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong version, or the wrong architecture. Repair or reinstall the complete Kaspersky product from Kaspersky’s official channel.
Will SFC restore it?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not third-party Kaspersky application files.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Not by default. This DLL may not support registration, and the command does not repair a damaged Kaspersky installation.
What if I no longer use Kaspersky?
Uninstall it normally. If the uninstall fails, run Kaspersky’s official removal tool, restart, and remove any clearly identified leftover startup entry.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan a 32-bit DLL run on 64-bit Windows?
Yes, 64-bit Windows can run many 32-bit applications. The DLL should remain in the legacy application’s directory, commonly under Program Files (x86), rather than being copied into a Windows system folder.
What is the correct order?
Check whether Kaspersky is installed, repair or reinstall it from the official source, use the official removal tool if uninstall or reinstall fails, remove stale startup references, scan suspicious copies, and use DISM, SFC, or System Restore only for broader Windows problems.
