The 2.1.1 client and server files are listed as uploaded on October 2, 2026. Older files are not migration components for the current release: do not combine a 1.16.5 or 1.7.10 mod, configuration, or world with the 1.20.1 pack. A mismatched loader or Minecraft version commonly produces missing-mod, wrong-version, or class-loading errors before the game reaches the title screen.

Install the client pack
Use the official Guns, Cars and Morph project page on Modrinth or CurseForge and select the 1.20.1 Forge release. The labels can differ slightly between launchers, but the compatibility choices must be identical.
- Create a clean instance. Make a new profile dedicated to this pack rather than adding its files to a general-purpose Forge profile. A clean instance prevents unrelated mods, old configurations, and conflicting dependencies from being blamed on the pack.
- Choose the game version. Set Minecraft to
1.20.1, then choose the Forge loader offered for the pack. Do not select Fabric, NeoForge, or a different Minecraft version merely because it is already installed in your launcher. - Select release 2.1.1. Install the client package whose release number is 2.1.1. If the launcher presents several files, avoid the file explicitly marked as the server package for a normal player profile.
- Let the launcher finish the dependency install. Start the instance once. The first launch may take longer while Forge creates directories and configuration files. Stop and read the complete log if it exits with an error instead of repeatedly clicking Play.
- Keep the profile isolated. Do not copy another instance’s
mods,config, or shader files into it until the unmodified pack starts successfully. Add personal settings only after establishing a working baseline.
For multiplayer, record the exact pack release shown by the launcher. A player running 1.20.1 Forge with a different Guns, Cars and Morph release is not equivalent to a player running 2.1.1; the server can reject the connection or behave unpredictably if content and network protocols differ.
Set up the dedicated server pack
The official files listing provides a dedicated artifact named GunsCarsAndMorph+Server-[2.1.1]. Download that server package rather than trying to turn a client profile into a server by copying arbitrary folders. The package and the players’ client must represent the same 1.20.1 Forge release.
1. Prepare a dedicated directory
Create a new directory used only by this server. Keeping it outside a client instance makes backups, permissions, upgrades, and recovery easier. Give the account that runs the server read/write access to the directory, and leave enough disk space for the generated world, logs, player data, and backups.
2. Extract the supplied files
Extract the contents of GunsCarsAndMorph+Server-[2.1.1] into the directory without renaming mod, library, or configuration paths. Server packages can include launch scripts or launcher-generated files; preserve their relative locations.

3. Use the Java runtime expected by the package
The correct Java executable and memory flags depend on the Forge files and hosting environment. Inspect the supplied start files and Forge documentation bundled with the installation instead of copying a command from an older Minecraft release. If the package includes a generated argument file, use that file as supplied. A log mentioning an unsupported class-file version, an invalid Java option, or a missing executable indicates that the selected Java runtime does not match the package’s requirement.

4. Run the supplied start file once
Launch the provided server start script from the server directory. The first run normally creates configuration, world, and log files and may stop while waiting for the Minecraft EULA. Run it from a terminal or console so that you can see the error text; double-clicking a script can close the window before the useful part of the log is visible.
5. Accept the EULA when prompted
Read Minecraft’s EULA and, if you agree, follow the package’s documented process to set the EULA acceptance required for startup. Restart using the same supplied start file. Do not delete the generated files to solve a normal EULA prompt; the server needs them to continue creating its world.
6. Configure the server before inviting players
Stop the server cleanly, edit the generated server properties, and then start it again. Set the world and gameplay options you actually want, choose a non-default server port if your network plan requires one, and enable a whitelist for a private test. Add player names through the server console or the documented operator controls rather than handing out operator privileges to everyone.
7. Test locally, then expose the port
Join from the host machine or local network first. Confirm that the world loads, the major pack features initialize, and a second client can connect. Only after that test should you configure router forwarding or a hosting provider’s firewall. Opening a port before the server is stable makes it harder to distinguish a Forge problem from a network problem.

8. Establish backups and recovery
Stop the server before making a full copy of the world and configuration, or use a hosting control panel’s documented snapshot system. Keep at least one backup separate from the live machine and periodically verify that it can be restored. Back up before changing the pack version; a world opened by a newer configuration may not safely return to an older one.
Client and server matching checklist
- Minecraft Java Edition: 1.20.1 on both sides.
- Forge loader on both sides.
- Guns, Cars and Morph release: 2.1.1 on both sides.
- Server users installed the client package, not the dedicated-server artifact.
- No extra mods, removed mods, or copied configurations have changed the required dependency set.
- The server has completed first-run generation and is using the intended world directory.
If a connection fails, compare these values before changing firewall rules or reinstalling Java. Most “incompatible mod set” and missing-channel errors are caused by a version, loader, or file-set mismatch.
Self-hosted machine or managed host?
There is no single best hosting choice. A computer you control gives maximum file access and avoids a recurring hosting contract, while a managed Minecraft host can reduce the work of networking, updates, and backups. Compare the following capabilities for this Forge pack:

The available pack information does not specify a required RAM amount, CPU model, maximum player count, or performance benchmark. Treat any advertised resource number as a host-specific allocation, not as an official requirement for the modpack. Start with a small private test, watch the server console and tick performance under your expected player load, and increase resources only when measurements show a bottleneck.

Public hosting is permitted. The published Kessel’s Packs License states: “You may also use the Modpack to host private or public Minecraft Servers without restriction.” That permission covers operating the server; it does not grant permission to repackage the files or claim ownership of the pack’s assets.

Before publishing an address, apply ordinary server-safety controls:
- Use a whitelist while testing and remove it only when you have a moderation plan.
- Grant operator privileges to as few trusted administrators as possible.
- Keep the server, host operating system, and access credentials updated.
- Automate backups and keep a copy away from the live server.
- Document the exact Minecraft, Forge, and pack versions so new players install the right client.
- Protect the console and file-transfer credentials; never post them with the server address.
Hosting publicly does not require a special client build. Players still need the matching 1.20.1 Forge client and release 2.1.1 files.
License rules for videos, streams, and downloads
The published license permits downloading and playing the pack through CurseForge, Modrinth, and applicable third-party launchers. It also permits monetized videos and other content and asks creators to link back to the modpack page. That is different from permission to redistribute the pack itself.

- Required as requested by the license: link viewers or readers back to the modpack page when creating content about it.
- Not allowed without explicit permission: altering, reuploading, or redistributing the modpack or its assets.
For a launcher, server host, or content project, follow the license text that applies at the time you publish. A hosting company’s commercial terms and current support for this specific Forge build are separate questions that you must verify with that company.

The launcher says the pack is incompatible
Open the instance settings and compare Minecraft version, loader, and pack release with the server. Recreate the instance as 1.20.1 Forge 2.1.1 if an older profile was reused. Do not solve the message by mixing files from the 1.16.5 or 1.7.10 releases.

The server closes during first launch
Run the supplied start file in a terminal and read the final error. Check that the Java executable exists, that it supports the Forge build, that the working directory is the server directory, and that the account can write files there. Complete the EULA step if the log requests it. The exact Java command should come from the downloaded package or its generated launcher files.
Players receive a missing-mod or mismatched-channel error
Compare the client and server pack versions, then compare the Forge loader versions. Remove extra client-side mods and restore the clean pack profile. If the server package was manually edited, replace it with a fresh extraction of GunsCarsAndMorph+Server-[2.1.1] and test before restoring a backup world.

The server starts but nobody can connect
Test a local connection first. If local play works, check the server port, host firewall, router forwarding, and the address players are using. A managed host may require opening the assigned port in its control panel. Do not expose the server until the local test and whitelist workflow are working.
The world lags when several players join
Check console timings and the host’s CPU and memory graphs while reproducing the problem. Reduce view or simulation settings only after recording the baseline, remove unrelated mods, and confirm that backups or antivirus scans are not competing for disk time. Because no official resource minimum or benchmark is stated for this pack, scale the machine or hosting plan from observed load rather than a guessed player limit.
An update broke an existing world
Stop the server and restore the last known-good world and configuration backup. Test a new copy of the world with the new pack release before allowing players back in. Never overwrite your only backup while experimenting with a version change.
Before you invite players
- Start a clean 1.20.1 Forge client and confirm release 2.1.1.
- Start the matching dedicated server package and verify that the world saves normally.
- Join with a second account or test client to confirm the connection and pack handshake.
- Set the whitelist, permissions, server properties, and moderation rules.
- Complete a restore test from a backup.
- Publish the installation details and the modpack-page link requested by the license.
Once these checks pass, Guns, Cars and Morph can support a private group or a public server without changing the client installation method. The critical discipline is version control: keep every player and the server on the same 1.20.1 Forge 2.1.1 build.
