Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteDuring the March 17, 2024 Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) North American regional finals, DarkZero’s Genburten appeared to see opponents through walls, and TSM’s ImperialHal later showed aim behavior that looked like an aimbot. The disruption compromised competitive play, and the tournament was postponed. The exact attack method and vulnerability were not publicly established in the reporting cited here.
What happened to Genburten and ImperialHal?
During the live finals match sequence, Genburten, whose name is Noyan Oskoze, appeared to have wallhack-like visibility: he could see opponents through walls. TSM player ImperialHal, Phillip Dosen, later appeared to experience aimbot-like aim behavior. Both players alerted others to what was happening. These are descriptions of the effects seen during play; public reporting did not independently establish how they were produced. GameSpot reported on the disruption and Respawn’s response on March 20, 2024.
Respawn paused the competition, and the North American regional final was postponed. The interruption was a response to the security issue, not a public finding about who was technically responsible or how the effects were caused.
Was the technical cause confirmed?
No. In the cited public reporting, no technical postmortem established the vulnerability or attack method. TechCrunch reported that a person using the name Destroyer2009 claimed responsibility and said the act was for fun, but declined to explain the technique. That is an attributed claim, not an independently verified account of the incident. TechCrunch’s March 20, 2024 report also reproduced Easy Anti-Cheat’s statement that it was “confident that there is no RCE vulnerability within EAC being exploited.”

That statement denied one proposed explanation: exploitation of a remote-code-execution vulnerability within Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). It did not identify the actual cause, rule out every other possible cause, or establish what any later investigation may have found. It would therefore be inaccurate to say the incident was caused by EAC or that the precise exploit is known.
What did Respawn and EA say they did?
Respawn said it paused the tournament because “Game and player security are our highest priorities, which is why we paused the competition to address the issue immediately.” It later said: “Our teams have deployed the first of a layered series of updates to protect the Apex Legends player community and create a secure experience for everyone.” Both statements were reproduced by GameSpot. Respawn did not disclose technical details of those updates in the cited statements.

In an August 21, 2024 anti-cheat update, EA said Apex Legends uses EAC, a kernel-level service, alongside additional protections, monitoring, and enforcement. EA also reported 209,777 bans in June–July 2024. That is EA’s figure for those two months; it is not a measure of the tournament incident, nor proof that a particular defense prevented an attack. What do the ALGS rules say about cheating?
The Year 4 ALGS rules prohibit cheats and software that provides an unfair advantage, as well as interference with another competitor’s participation. Possible sanctions include match forfeiture and disqualification. Those provisions describe tournament policy; they do not identify who was responsible for the March 2024 disruption. The ALGS rules are available from EA.

How should players report cheating or security vulnerabilities?
EA’s published guidance directs players to report suspected cheating in-game or through EA Help. For concerns about game vulnerabilities or anti-cheat bypasses, EA points to its coordinated vulnerability disclosure program. Use the official channels and follow their current instructions; a vulnerability report is different from an ordinary in-game cheating report. EA’s anti-cheat update links to its reporting guidance.
