The Olympic Update was Hades II’s first major Early Access update. Supergiant Games announced it on October 16, 2024, adding a new region and guardian to the Surface Route, the weapon Xinth, new allies and familiars, more story, and other features. It was a free automatic update for Early Access players on Steam and the Epic Games Store at the time—not a separate edition of the game.
What the Olympic Update added
Supergiant described the update as adding the third region and guardian to Hades II’s Surface Route, along with the game’s sixth and final main weapon at that point in Early Access. Its announcement highlighted these additions:
- A new surface region and guardian: Melinoë reached a new area on the Surface Route, where the gods needed help.
- Xinth, the Black Coat: The new weapon was described as the final Nocturnal Arm, with unique Aspects to unlock.
- New allies and familiars: Two allies brought blessings, secrets, and Keepsakes; two animal familiars could also join Melinoë.
- More Crossroads customization: Players could unlock dozens of decorations and music tracks for the Crossroads.
- Additional challenges: New content included Vows for the Oath of the Unseen, a Moon Monument, and an Unseen Sigil.
- More story: Supergiant said the update included “close to 2,500 new voice lines.” That was the studio’s approximate figure in its 2024 announcement, not an independently verified exact count.
- Technical and presentation updates: The update added native support for Macs with Apple M1 or later, alongside quality-of-life improvements and new art and audio.
Supergiant’s October 16, 2024 announcement outlines the feature list. It also links to full Steam patch notes, but granular balance changes and bug fixes are not detailed here.
Was the Olympic Update free?
Yes. When it launched during Early Access, the Olympic Update was a free automatic download for Hades II players on Steam and the Epic Games Store. It was a game update, not a separately sold product. That historical update policy does not mean the full game is free today; current purchase terms depend on platform and date.

How to play Hades II now
The Olympic Update’s content became part of the full game. Hades II left Early Access with its v1.0 launch on September 25, 2025, for PC and Nintendo platforms. Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions followed on April 14, 2026. Supergiant’s Hades II FAQ, last updated April 14, 2026, lists the current platforms and launch dates.

About the Switch game card
The retail Switch card is the full game, not a special Olympic Update release. Supergiant says the card works with both Switch generations and recommends connecting online to receive the latest updates. Check the regional listing for availability and edition details.
