The Warsong Update, announced by Supergiant Games on February 19, 2025, added a final confrontation on Hades II’s surface route, the god Ares and his Boons, and more story content. It was a free update to the Early Access game at the time—not a newly released update: Hades II later launched as version 1.0 on September 25, 2025.
What did the Hades II Warsong Update add?
Supergiant described Warsong as a major expansion of encounters, story, and gameplay systems. Its additions included:
- A final confrontation at the end of the surface route, beyond the Guardian of Olympus.
- Ares and his Boons.
- Revised Arcana effects and updated art for the Altar of Ashes.
- A new animal familiar and additional interactions at the Crossroads.
- Additional music and updated Boons.
- Streamlined resource gathering.
The update also added more than 2,000 voice lines and new events with most of the cast, according to Supergiant’s February 19, 2025 announcement. The studio’s announcement does not identify the final confrontation’s boss, so the feature is best described as a new surface-route confrontation rather than attributed to a specific character.
Is the Hades II update free?
Warsong was initially a free, automatic download for the Early Access game on Steam and the Epic Games Store. It was not a separate update purchase. Hades II has since moved beyond Early Access, so this describes how Warsong was distributed when it launched, not a separate current product listing.

How is Warsong different from the full game’s ending?
Warsong added a final confrontation to the surface route, but Supergiant’s announcement framed further story expansion as work still to come before version 1.0. When Hades II version 1.0 launched, Supergiant said it included the story’s true ending, new events for voiced characters, additional music, prophecies, and late-game unlockables. The Warsong surface-route encounter and the completed story’s true ending are distinct milestones.
Warsong was not the game’s last update. The official Steam announcements feed includes later post-launch patches; an April 14, 2026 Patch 2 announcement described bonus content and quality-of-life improvements.

Where can you play Hades II, and what editions are available?
Supergiant’s FAQ, last updated April 14, 2026, lists Hades II for Steam, the Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The FAQ gives this launch chronology and format information:

These platform and edition details come from the Supergiant Hades II FAQ. If you want a physical copy, the FAQ confirms game cards for Switch and Switch 2; it does not confirm physical PS5 or Xbox copies. Its statement about console physical editions reflects the publisher’s plans as of April 14, 2026, and could change.

Which Hades II versions support cross-saves?
According to the same FAQ, cross-saves work between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and between Steam and the Epic Games Store. Supergiant says cross-saves with the other versions are unavailable.
