Half-Life 3 has not been officially announced in the sources reviewed as of October 8, 2026. The renewed speculation comes from reporting about datamined references to “HLX” and Hideo Kojima’s reported visit to Valve—not from a confirmed game reveal, a release date, or evidence that Kojima is working with Valve.
Is Half-Life 3 confirmed?
No. Valve’s official About page identifies Half-Life as the company’s debut title, released in 1998, but does not announce a third game. Valve’s historical Half-Life news archive is also useful for official series updates; the reviewed sources contain no announcement of Half-Life 3.

That distinction matters because the current discussion rests on reported clues and interpretations. A real code reference or photograph can be accurately reported without proving what fans infer from it.
What is HLX?
“HLX” is a label associated in reporting with datamined Valve code and speculation about a possible new Half-Life project. It is not a confirmed public title. The sources reviewed do not establish that HLX is Half-Life 3, that the project is complete, or that it will be released.

#1 Best Overall
- New weapons; new levels; solve a variety of puzzles; first-person shooter
In January 2025, Ars Technica reported renewed HLX speculation, including claims attributed to Valve-focused observers and a claim that the project had been playtested. Those are reported claims from observers, not an announcement or confirmation by Valve. In June 2026, reporting on a Dota 2 variable-name joke suggested Valve knew people were examining its code for clues; that does not identify HLX or confirm a game’s status.
Valve’s code is the source of the clue, but interpreting a label in code is a separate step. Until Valve identifies the project, HLX should be treated as a rumor clue rather than a settled name or a promise of a sequel.

- Amazing new graphics with pre-rendered cutscenes that look like they came from the movies
- More realistic physics - Objects have varied and appropriate mass, density and physical properties
- Incredibly advanced AI as enemies adapt, plan, improvise, and respond
- Hordes of new aliens and other enemies, plus a plethora of new guns and weapons
Did Hideo Kojima tease Half-Life 3?
Not in any confirmed announcement. PC Gamer reported on April 22, 2026, that Kojima visited Valve’s headquarters and shared photographs featuring Half-Life-themed gravity guns and Portal guns. The visit and props explain why fans connected him to the rumor; they do not show that Valve was teasing Half-Life 3.
A photograph can document a visit and the objects in the room. It cannot, on its own, establish a collaboration, a game announcement, or the meaning of the visit.

Is Kojima working with Valve?
The reviewed sources do not substantiate a Kojima-Valve project. Kojima Productions’ official September 17, 2026 PHYSINT announcement names Bill Skarsgård as the project’s lead and describes it as a partnership with Xbox. That is separate, official context about PHYSINT; it is not evidence of a Valve collaboration.

No substantiated release date appears in the reviewed sources. Rumored release windows should not be treated as schedules: neither the reported HLX clues nor the Kojima visit establishes when a game might launch—or that HLX will become a released game at all.

How to judge the latest Half-Life 3 rumors
- Official announcements: A Valve statement naming a game would confirm its identity. The reviewed Valve page does not do that.
- Datamining reports: These can point to genuine code, but the meaning of a label such as HLX remains an interpretation unless Valve confirms it.
- Photos and fan readings: The reported visit and props are real-world context for speculation, not proof of a reveal or partnership.
- Release predictions: Without an official date, treat a forecast as speculation and attribute it to whoever made it.
