Milly Shapiro’s Pumpkin has spent what she believes is the end of humanity keeping Halloween alive; when scavengers arrive, her rituals become part of a desperate confrontation.
What is Hallowarrior about?
Written and directed by Ben Sottak, whose feature debut this is, Hallowarrior is an 80-minute US horror-thriller. Pumpkin (Milly Shapiro) believes a humanity-ending plague has left her alone. In her isolated home, she maintains Halloween traditions amid an orange-lit world of decorations and ritual. The arrival of scavengers changes the shape of that solitude: what begins as an invitation becomes a fight to survive.

The Halloween details are more than seasonal dressing. They give Pumpkin a way to impose rhythm and meaning on a life defined by isolation. The film’s central tension comes from that fragile routine colliding with the threat at her door—and from the possibility that survival will require choices Pumpkin finds difficult.
Is Hallowarrior like Home Alone?
There is a clear premise-level resemblance: someone inside a home must contend with intruders. The SLASH Filmfestival describes the film as a “festive blend of Home Alone and survival horror,” while Eye for Film reviewer Jennie Kermode also notes the comparison and stresses that the tone is different.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This is not a comedy about elaborate pranks. The home-invasion setup leads into horror violence, and the emotional stakes matter as much as the traps and tactics. Kermode highlights Pumpkin’s distress about killing and her fear of losing companionship as elements that make the survival tension more affecting. The comparison is useful for understanding the setup, not the genre or mood.
How does the film handle its horror and pacing?
The film’s hook is the contrast between Halloween playfulness and a brutal fight for survival. Tribeca’s festival description calls it a “lean, mean and visceral” entry in the Halloween horror canon and praises Shapiro’s performance; that is festival copy, not a measure of critical or audience consensus.

Kermode’s review offers a separate, individual response: she praises the early character work and pacing, and describes the ride as fun, while emphasizing how Pumpkin’s feelings complicate the violence. Those observations point to the film’s particular balance—an efficient survival story whose conflict is not emotionally weightless.
