Before Halo 5: Guardians launched, an online tool on the official Halo site let players preview multiplayer Spartan armor and helmet combinations. Neowin reported the feature on October 19, 2015; that announcement is historical, and the tool’s present availability has not been verified.
What could you customize online?
The feature was for a multiplayer Spartan, not a general-purpose character creator. Neowin reported that players could equip armor sets and helmets they had unlocked, then view their Spartan on a 3D model. It also described experimenting with armor permutations and visors, including options associated with locked armor.

That distinction matters: the report described a way to preview combinations, but did not say that viewing a locked option unlocked it in the game.
How did players access the tool?
Neowin’s October 19, 2015 instructions were to sign in to an Xbox Live account on the official Halo site and use its desktop version. Those were directions for the feature at the time, not confirmation that the page or customizer still works today.

Would an online setup transfer into Halo 5?
Neowin wrote, “Assumedly at launch, these character setups will transfer to the multiplayer on Xbox One.” The word “assumedly” is important: this was the reporter’s expectation, not a confirmed transfer guarantee in the announcement.

Its current availability is unverified. Halo Waypoint’s later vNext FAQ says some Halo 5 web features, including browsing user-generated content, would not carry forward. It does not specifically name the Spartan customization tool, so it cannot establish whether that particular feature remains accessible.
