Can Xbox, PlayStation and PC players play together?
Yes. Online campaign co-op spans PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5. Cross-play and cross-progression are supported when you link a Microsoft account, so players on different platforms can join the same campaign fireteam. The game launched on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam and PS5 on July 28, 2026; Xbox Wire lists July 29 for Japan and some Asia-Pacific markets. Multiplayer, cross-platform multiplayer and online interactions may be restricted by account settings. The Halo Support co-op FAQ outlines the settings to review.
Can you play split-screen co-op?
Yes, on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, with two players sharing one console. The local split-screen campaign mode does not require Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. PC split-screen is not supported, so PC players cannot use one computer for this two-player arrangement.

Do you need Game Pass or PlayStation Plus for co-op?
It depends on how you play. A two-player local split-screen session on one Xbox or PS5 needs neither Xbox Game Pass nor PlayStation Plus. For network co-op involving multiple consoles or PCs, a relevant subscription may be required for one or both players. The requirement depends on the platform, account and console-sharing setup; it is not a blanket rule that every online player always needs a subscription, nor that online play is always subscription-free.
Xbox Wire announced the game as available day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. That launch inclusion is separate from the co-op subscription rules above, and plan availability can change; check the current platform listing for the applicable offer.

What to check before starting an online fireteam
- Use supported accounts: For online sessions, players joining from split-screen need an Xbox or PlayStation Network account. Guest accounts are not supported.
- Choose a reliable host: Halo Support recommends that the player with the fastest, most stable connection host, because co-op network quality depends on the Fireteam Leader’s connection.
- Keep the Fireteam Leader connected: If the leader leaves or disconnects, the session ends.
- Confirm account and cross-play settings: Check platform privacy settings and the in-game Cross-play toggle if players cannot join across devices.
Choosing between local and online co-op
For couch co-op, use an Xbox Series X|S or PS5: it supports two players on one system without a subscription. For a larger group, or to play with friends on other devices, use online campaign co-op, which supports up to four players across PC, Xbox and PS5. A PC player cannot join a local split-screen session on the same computer, but can play online with console players.
