Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, launched on July 28, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. It marks the franchise’s first arrival on PlayStation, while adding new prequel missions, updated gameplay and expanded co-op to the familiar campaign.
When did Halo: Campaign Evolved come out?
Halo Studios set the global launch for July 28, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. PDT. Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets received the game on July 29 local time. Early access began July 23 at 8:00 a.m. PDT, or July 24 in those markets, according to the official Halo announcement. These are launch dates, not upcoming release windows.
Is Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5?
Yes. The game launched on PlayStation 5, alongside Xbox Series X|S and PC. Xbox Wire’s launch coverage lists Xbox on PC, cloud and Steam among the access routes, and notes Xbox Play Anywhere support. The game also supports cross-play and cross-progression across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam and PS5, so players can team up across platforms and carry shared progression between supported versions, as described in Xbox Wire’s launch coverage.
PlayStation’s announcement presented the release as Halo’s arrival on PS5, with online cross-play and cross-progression as well as local co-op. The announcement is dated October 24, 2025: PlayStation.Blog.

What does the remake include?
Campaign Evolved remakes the campaign of Halo: Combat Evolved; it is not presented as a remake of every component of the original game. Halo Studios describes it as a ground-up remake, with enhanced visuals, controls, level design and cinematics, along with more weapons and vehicle improvements. Xbox Wire specifies Unreal Engine 5, 4K visuals, updated animations, remastered music and re-recorded voice lines in its feature answering questions about the remake.
Three new missions set before the original campaign
The campaign retains the original story and adds three prequel missions featuring Master Chief and Sergeant Avery Johnson. Halo Studios’ announcement introducing the game and Xbox Wire’s feature describe these as new bonus campaign missions set before the events of the original.

Weapons, vehicles and optional modifiers
PlayStation’s announcement describes nine additional weapons, vehicle hijacking, the ability to pilot the Covenant Wraith, and expanded Skulls—optional gameplay modifiers. These are announced features, not independent assessments of how they play. Xbox Wire’s July 23, 2026 feature on the remake’s new features also outlines the expanded gameplay.
How does co-op work?
Console versions support two-player split-screen, while online co-op supports up to four players across Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC. Cross-play lets players on those platforms play together, and shared progression is supported across the listed versions. For couch co-op, plan on a second compatible controller; online co-op is the option for larger groups.

Which edition should you choose?
The important distinction for buyers is whether an edition supplies a physical disc or a digital entitlement. Halo Studios’ edition details distinguish the console Collector’s Editions from the Steam version and the digital Premium Edition.

Is Halo: Campaign Evolved included with Game Pass?
At launch, Xbox Wire said the game was included day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. That announcement establishes the launch access route, not whether the game remains in either subscription catalog now. Check the current Game Pass catalog and terms before subscribing on that basis.
