Halo’s PS5 debut was announced on October 24, 2025: the game is Halo: Campaign Evolved, a rebuilt version of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. The announcement confirmed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC versions. Halo later set its global launch for July 28, 2026, with July 29 timing in Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets.
What was revealed on October 24?
PlayStation Blog published the announcement on October 24, 2025. Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard, Community Director at Halo Studios, introduced Halo: Campaign Evolved as a rebuilt and modernized version of the original Halo campaign. Jarrard called it a day he would never forget: “Halo is coming to PlayStation.” PlayStation Blog’s announcement confirmed PS5 alongside Xbox Series and PC.
The announcement resolved the central rumor that Halo would come to PlayStation. It did not validate every other possibility floated in advance, including speculation about a separate multiplayer project.
What did the pre-announcement reports claim?
Before the reveal, the PS5 claim was not official. NeonLightsMedia reported on October 22, 2025 that a cryptic post from Halo dataminer Grunt API had been followed by reporter Rebs Gaming linking a possible PS5 announcement to the Halo World Championship on Friday, October 24. NeonLightsMedia explicitly noted that Halo Studios had not confirmed the claim at the time. Its report also speculated about a Combat Evolved remake and a separate multiplayer project; those details were possibilities, not confirmed facts.

GamesHub separately said Grunt API had reconfirmed the PS5 connection, while noting uncertainty over whether references to two projects meant two versions of one game or two different titles. That report likewise described rumor-stage claims. The official reveal established that Campaign Evolved was coming to PS5, but does not make every speculative detail accurate.
What is Halo: Campaign Evolved?
Halo Studios described the game as the complete original campaign rebuilt with high-definition visuals, new cinematics, smoother controls and movement, improved wayfinding and combat flow, a remastered soundtrack, and rebuilt sound design. It also announced nine additional weapons and three new prequel missions starring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. The announcement post has the studio’s full feature description.
Co-op and cross-platform play
The announced co-op options are four-player online co-op and two-player couch co-op. The game also supports cross-play and cross-progression across console and PC, according to the announcement.
When does it launch, and is there a PS5 disc?
The October 2025 reveal initially gave a 2026 release window. Halo’s official July 2026 Community Q&A later set the global launch for July 28, 2026 at 8 a.m. PDT, with July 29 timing in Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets. Eligible Premium Edition purchasers can begin early access on July 23 at 8 a.m. PDT. These dates and timings are from Halo’s Community Q&A.
The same Q&A says retail PlayStation and Xbox purchases include a physical game case and disc. That confirms what comes in a retail PS5 copy, but does not establish a retailer’s current stock or price.
