Halo arrived on PlayStation for the first time with Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. It launched globally on July 28, 2026, ahead of the franchise’s 25th anniversary; Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets received it on July 29. The game is available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake, not a new multiplayer release
The game retells the original Halo: Combat Evolved story, rebuilding its visuals, cinematics and audio while refining controls. The project began with a focus on the campaign that introduced the series: “We wanted to start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo,” Executive Producer Damon Conn told Xbox Wire.
Halo Studios describes the game as a remake, rather than a new mainline multiplayer entry. Creative Director Max Szlagor said the team drew on lessons from Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, including player wayfinding, navigation and variety in enemy encounters. Game Director Greg Hermann said the goal was to keep the gameplay “100% authentically Halo at its core,” in the same Xbox Wire interview.
What the remake adds to the original campaign
The original story is joined by three new prequel missions starring Master Chief and Sergeant Avery Johnson. Other additions and changes include:

Platforms, co-op and online requirements
Campaign Evolved is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Xbox Wire also lists Steam, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass options. Halo Studios says players can team up across Xbox Series X|S, PC and PS5, with cross-play and cross-progression.

On PS5, online console co-op requires a PlayStation Plus subscription, sold separately, according to the PlayStation Store listing. Halo Studios’ platform and co-op details appear in its announcement.
Physical and Collector’s Editions
A physical edition is available through select retailers worldwide, according to Halo Support. The official story and editions page lists PS5 and Xbox Series X Collector’s Editions with a physical game disc, SteelBook, 12-inch Master Chief statue by Dark Horse, LED Cortana data-chip replica and three art prints. The Steam Collector’s Edition uses a voucher code instead of a physical disc.

Halo’s arrival on PS5 is a franchise first. In its October 24, 2025 PlayStation Blog announcement, Halo Studios Community Director Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard wrote: “Today’s announcement is one I’ll never forget: Halo is coming to PlayStation.” That announcement preceded the game’s eventual 2026 launch.
