What did the monthly-game offer mean?
A Monthly Game is not the same as a permanent free copy. Sony’s PlayStation Plus support guidance says monthly games can be downloaded and played at no extra cost while the membership is active. The January 2023 offer therefore confirms the game was included for members then; it does not establish that every member claimed it or that the offer remains available to claim.
Can you play Fallout 76 with PS Plus Extra or Premium now?
Extra and Premium include access to the Game Catalog, and Bethesda says subscribers can play Fallout 76 through the catalog without purchasing it while it is included. Bethesda also cautions that access ends if the membership ends or the game leaves the catalog. See Bethesda’s PlayStation access guidance.

- Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, welcome you to Fallout 76, the online prequel where every surviving human is a real person. Work together, or not, to survive. Under the threat of nuclear annihilation, you’ll experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe
- Reclamation Day, 2102. Twenty-five years after the bombs fall, you and your fellow Vault Dwellers—chosen from the nation’s best and brightest – emerge into post-nuclear America. Play solo or join together as you explore, quest, build, and triumph against the wasteland’s greatest threats
Catalog availability changes over time and may differ by region and plan. Sony’s US game finder notes that availability varies and that some catalog titles have an end date. Check the live PlayStation Store listing for your region and tier before subscribing specifically to play Fallout 76.
Which access route applies to you?
| Route | Plan or ownership needed | What determines access |
|---|---|---|
| January 2023 Monthly Game | Essential, Extra, or Premium membership at the time | The offer began January 3, 2023. Monthly-game play is tied to an active membership; the historical offer does not mean it is currently claimable. |
| Game Catalog | Extra or Premium membership | The game must still be included in the catalog for your region, and the membership must remain active. |
| Physical PS4 disc | Ownership of the disc | Bethesda says disc owners can download the PS5 version from PlayStation Store at no additional charge. This is separate from subscription access; see Bethesda’s access guidance. |
Is PlayStation Plus required to play Fallout 76 online?
Yes. Bethesda’s PlayStation support guidance says a PlayStation Plus membership is required to play Fallout 76 online on PlayStation. That online-play requirement is distinct from whether you obtained the game through a Monthly Game, the Game Catalog, or a disc.
