No lawsuit had been filed, according to publisher Movie Games’ clarification in April 2025. The controversy was about the publisher investigating possible similarities between Schedule I and Drug Dealer Simulator, not a court ruling that copying or infringement had occurred. On July 16, 2026, LawFold reported that no formal lawsuit had been filed as of that date.

What prompted the lawsuit rumors?

Movie Games S.A., the publisher of Drug Dealer Simulator, announced an investigation into possible similarities with Schedule I, developed by TVGS. Reports described the subjects under review as the games’ plot, mechanics, and user interface. Those were areas being investigated—not findings by a court that infringement had occurred.

As rumors spread that Schedule I had been sued, Movie Games clarified that no lawsuit had been filed at that time. GamesRadar quoted the publisher’s statement: “There is no lawsuit.” The statement was attributed to Movie Games, not to a named individual. GamesRadar+ reported the clarification and the publisher’s position.

Who was involved, and what did Movie Games say?

  • Movie Games S.A. said it was handling the investigation.
  • Byterunners, the developer of Drug Dealer Simulator, was not involved in the investigation, according to Movie Games.
  • TVGS developed Schedule I. Movie Games said it did not intend to prevent TVGS from selling or developing the game.

Insider Gaming’s April 11, 2025 report described the investigation’s reported scope and the rumors that led to the lawsuit question.

What was the later reported status?

In an article dated July 16, 2026, LawFold reported that no formal lawsuit had been filed as of that date. It also reported finding no public or ESPI update on the investigation after April 2025. That is a dated report of the available status, not proof that Movie Games closed or abandoned its investigation. Read LawFold’s July 16, 2026 status report.

Was copying or infringement proven?

No. The available reporting describes an investigation into possible similarities, including plot, mechanics, and UI. It does not establish that a court found copying or infringement, or that a formal case was filed. An announced investigation and a lawsuit filed in court are different things.

Could Schedule I still be sued?

The reporting establishes what Movie Games said in April 2025 and what LawFold reported as of July 16, 2026; it does not establish what may happen after that date. The investigation’s eventual outcome remains unconfirmed in those reports, so they do not support a definitive prediction about future legal action.
