You choose songs, move around the virtual venue, and join in with penlight motions and calls; the core appeal is being in Miku’s concert, not playing notes against a chart.
What kind of game is VR Future Live?
SEGA describes VR Future Live as a one-player PlayStation VR live concert. It is built around watching and participating in performances, with limited interaction between songs. That distinction matters if you are choosing between this and a Miku game centered on scored rhythm gameplay: here, the virtual venue and changing viewpoints are the main event.
During a show, you can select tracks and shift your viewpoint around the venue. SEGA also describes hologram performances, flying stages, and audience participation: move a penlight in rhythm and call along to raise the venue’s excitement and reach a private encore. These are concert interactions, not a replacement for song-chart play.
How the stages and songs work
SEGA’s Japan product page lists three stages, originally released on October 13, November 10, and December 15, 2016, and notes a Japan-market All Stage Pack. Those dates and packaging describe the Japanese release; they do not establish present-day availability in every region.

The US PlayStation Store listing for 1st Stage says that stage contains six songs and an encore. That is the stage’s catalog, not a claim that all six songs play in one performance: SEGA describes a live set of three songs, with the player choosing from the available options. The US listing names tracks such as “Love Trial,” “1/6 -out of the gravity-,” “Satisfaction,” “Weekender Girl,” “39,” “Cute Medley – Idol Sounds,” and “Love Song.”
What do the reviews say?
User feedback highlights the atmosphere and the ability to change perspective—qualities that can make the experience feel like attending a Miku concert in VR. Some users also describe the shows as short and the interaction between songs as limited; one July 2023 Metacritic user review additionally criticized staging that they found distracting. These are individual opinions, not controlled tests, and expectations matter: a fan seeking a virtual concert may value the same design choices differently from someone seeking a substantial rhythm-game campaign.

When accessed in 2026, Metacritic’s PS4 user-review page showed a 7.1 user score, with 14 positive reviews (70%), one mixed review (5%), and five negative reviews (25%). The US PlayStation Store’s 1st Stage page showed 4.62 out of 5 from 105 ratings at that access time. The store rating is a separate measure from Metacritic’s score, and both displays can change as ratings or reviews accumulate. The demo listing’s separate 3.60 out of 5 from 12,332 ratings is for the demo, not the paid stage.
Price, platform, and hardware to check
The US PlayStation Store listed 1st Stage at $14.99 when accessed on October 8, 2026. Price and availability can change, so check your own regional PlayStation Store listing before buying. SEGA’s Japan page describes three stages and Japan-market packaging; do not treat those details or historical Japanese pricing as the US offer.

The US store listing identifies the game as a digital PS4 title and requires a PlayStation VR headset and PlayStation Camera. SEGA’s Japan product page also lists PlayStation Move support. The official listings cited here establish the PS4/original PS VR setup; they do not establish support for PS VR2, PC VR, or Meta Quest. Confirm compatibility for your specific console and headset before purchase. The official demo listing is also for PS4 and calls for PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera; it includes a standard warning that VR games may cause motion sickness in some players.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is likely to enjoy it?
- A good fit: Miku fans who want a virtual concert, enjoy changing their viewpoint, and like the idea of waving a penlight or calling along.
- Less suitable: Players expecting a long rhythm-game campaign, extensive between-song activities, or a large amount of active gameplay in each show.
- Before buying: Check that your PS4-era PlayStation VR headset and camera meet the store listing’s requirements, then verify current regional price and availability.
For a comparison with another Hatsune Miku game, focus on whether it offers concert attendance or scored rhythm play, the hardware it requires, how songs are divided among stages or add-ons, and whether you value virtual venue presence more than active chart play. Catalog sizes are not compared here because they depend on the exact editions being considered.
