This guide covers the Haute42 HautePad M Series wired round-button controller. Its default input mode is X-input; you can select another mode when connecting it, open the web configurator, and use documented shortcuts for D-pad and SOCD behavior. Button combinations below come from manual text surfaced through a third-party listing, so check Haute42’s current support material if a combination differs on your firmware.

Identify the HautePad M Series

The HautePad M is a wired round-button controller running GP2040-CE. Haute42 lists Kailh low-profile switches, hot-swappable switches, RGB, an EXT port, M1/M2 custom keys, and embedded web configuration. The manufacturer advertises input latency below 1 ms; this is a product claim, not an independent test result. Haute42’s Haute Pad M product page lists dimensions of 166 × 240 × 12.6 mm and weight of 720 g.

The listed included items are the controller, USB cable, one Kailh Red low-profile switch, switch puller, two 6 mm button caps, six anti-slip pads, and an instruction manual.

Choose an input mode

The manual says the default mode is X-input and that the selected mode is saved across power cycles. To choose a mode, hold the corresponding button while plugging the controller into the PC or other host:

Haute42 lists compatibility with Windows 10 or later, Steam Deck, PlayStation 3 and 4, Nintendo Switch, Raspberry Pi distributions (Lakka, RetroPie, Recalbox, and Batocera), MiSTer, Android, Linux, iPadOS, and macOS. Compatibility depends on the host and selected mode; the list does not establish that every mode works on every platform. See the manufacturer’s compatibility and mode information for the product’s current advertised scope.

Open the web configurator

  1. Hold START while plugging the controller into a PC.
  2. Open a browser on that PC and visit http://192.168.7.1.
  3. Use the configurator to adjust settings. The manual also says settings can be changed through the web configurator.

This is the procedure stated in the surfaced manual text; it has not been independently tested here.

Change D-pad behavior

The manual lists these default shortcuts:

Combination Function
BACK + START + DOWN D-pad mode
BACK + START + LEFT Emulate the left analog stick
BACK + START + RIGHT Emulate the right analog stick
HOME + START + RIGHT Invert the D-pad Y-axis

The manual warns that the Y-axis inversion hotkey could change in later releases. If a shortcut does not work, consult the current model-specific documentation rather than assuming the combination is unchanged.

Set the SOCD mode

The manual describes SOCD (simultaneous opposite cardinal directions) options selected with HOME + START plus a direction:

Use turbo and RGB shortcuts

The manual says to hold TURBO and press a supported button to toggle its turbo assignment. Supported buttons are A, B, X, Y, LB, RB, LT, and RT. The assignment clears when power is turned off.

The manual also lists BACK + START combinations for changing RGB animation, brightness, and color or other parameters, but the exact combinations are not established here. Consult the current manual or configurator for those controls.

Update firmware safely

Firmware filenames and update steps can change. The manual text describes entering a virtual RP1-RP2 disk mode and copying named files, but does not establish a current M Series firmware version or revision-specific instructions. Before updating, open the official Haute42 support page, select material for the M Series, and follow the instructions accompanying the current download. Do not rely on an old filename or assume a procedure for another HautePad model applies.
