The current public recipe database contains roughly 170 entries, but its July 28, 2026 page reports both 168 and 173, so no exact total is currently reliable. This guide separates documented base recipes, ingredient variants, and event cooking, while flagging recipes whose current ingredient slots remain inconsistent.
How to unlock Cooking in Heartopia
- Reach Developer’s Guild Level 5.
- Obtain a Hobby Expansion Ticket.
- Visit Massimo’s café in the town center.
- Use the ticket to select Cooking.
- Massimo gives you your first stove and starter recipes.
If you chose another hobby at Level 5, the currently documented later ticket opportunities are Developer’s Guild Levels 8 and 11. A guide that says Cooking requires Level 8 is outdated; the newer documented requirement is Level 5. See the documented Cooking unlock route.
Where to cook
- The outdoor stove beside Massimo.
- A stove in your home.
- Special event stations, such as the Tidal Stove used by many Call of Whales recipes.
Massimo provides a stove when Cooking is unlocked and gives you the blueprint for additional home stoves.
How the cooking system works
- Interact with a stove and choose Cooking.
- Select a recipe you have already learned.
- Fill the ingredient slots. Slots marked Any Fish, Any Vegetable, Any Mushroom, or another flexible category accept qualifying ingredients.
- Start cooking.
- When the spatula prompt and green countdown ring appear, activate the prompt before the ring expires.
- Collect the dish when cooking finishes.
Heartopia does not treat random ingredient combinations as a universal recipe-discovery system. You must first know the base recipe. Specific substitutions can then produce named variants.

Missing the heat-adjustment prompt burns the food or drink and can produce Bizarre Food or Bizarre Drink.

For the recipes marked uncertain, use the ingredient slots displayed in your current game client rather than an older third-party table. Public lists disagree particularly on Crayfish Sashimi, Candlelight Dinner, and several higher-level recipes.
Jam and sauce variants
Cook the starter Mixed Jam with one specific ingredient type to create a named variant. Tomatoes are valid in this system and produce Tomato Sauce.

Call of Whales event cooking
The current Call of Whales guide documents 19 event recipes: 15 require the Tidal Stove, while four use a normal stove. The route begins by entering Whalefall Canyon; the guide lists Developer’s Guild Member Level 7 along with the event’s entry requirement.
How to unlock the event recipes
- Enter Whalefall Canyon and follow Massimo’s event cooking objective.
- Learn the recipe cards and Tidal Stove crafting book from your bag.
- Craft the Tidal Stove at a regular workbench, or use the event station beside Massimo.
- Cook normal-stove preparations first, including the required jams.
- Use the Tidal Stove for recipes that do not appear on a regular stove.

The event guide identifies ingredient sources including Scallops and Japanese Flying Squid in Whale Sea; Sea Grape, Wakame, and Glasswort in Whalefall Canyon; Spirulina Powder, Pasteurized Egg, Meat, and permanent recipe cards from Massimo; and Starfruit, Paddy, Milk, Wheat, Tomato, Shiitake, Common Prawn, fruit, and jams from Blanc or the pantry. An efficient route is to grow Starfruit and Paddy, gather the sea plants, catch six Japanese Flying Squid and six Scallops, prepare the named jams on a normal stove, then make the base dishes and variants on the Tidal Stove. Event recipe troubleshooting
- Cook the base recipe first: a variant may not unlock until its base dish has been made.
- Avoid Universal Ingredient: it can prevent a named variant from being discovered.
- Check the stove: some recipes appear only when using the Tidal Stove.
- Check every inventory location: recipe cards may be in your bag, mail, home storage, or warehouse.
- Reload if necessary: after learning a card, reload the zone or relog.
- Track the event objective: Massimo’s cooking quest may not appear until earlier Whalefall Canyon objectives are complete and the task is selected in the event panel.
Why Heartopia recipe totals disagree
The unofficial Heartopia.Life recipe database, updated July 28, 2026, currently shows conflicting totals: its page title says “All 168 Cooking Recipes,” the database counter says 168 entries, while its search and FAQ report 173. The same page lists 12 cooking levels and seven event collections.
That discrepancy is not merely a formatting detail. The database changelog records new and updated entries on July 28, including Cheese Crayfish Stuffed Crab Claws, Cinnamoroll Crepe, Crayfish Avocado Cup, Kuromi Crepe, My Melody Crepe, and Grilled Squid w/ Strawberry Jam, plus the addition of Starfruit as a crop. Its automatic tracking covers recipes, ingredients, crops, events, and other sections, so older “complete” lists are snapshots rather than permanent inventories. Check the database changelog when an update changes the cooking menu.
The safest current description is therefore: Heartopia has roughly 170 publicly catalogued cooking entries, including base-game and event recipes, but the exact total is currently unverified. Do not treat older totals such as 32, 58, 77, 87, 98, 168, or 173 as universally correct without checking what version and categories they include.
Quick rules for discovering variants
- Learn the base recipe before attempting its variant.
- Use the exact named ingredient consistently in every flexible slot.
- Do not assume a Universal Ingredient counts as the specific ingredient needed for a named result.
- Keep special-station recipes separate from regular-stove recipes.
- When a recipe is missing, check the recipe card’s storage location, the stove type, and the current event objective before assuming it was not awarded.

This guide reflects publicly documented information available through August 8, 2026. The recipe database is unofficial and warns that game data can change with updates. For the latest totals and newly added dishes, consult the current recipe database and its changelog.
