Helldivers 2: How to Win an Automaton Defense Campaign

To contribute to an Automaton defense Major Order in Helldivers 2, first check the in-game Control Centre and Galactic Map for the active order’s exact objective, eligible planets and deadline. Those details change with the live Galactic War; confirm them before choosing a destination, rather than relying on an old guide or an unverified planet recommendation.

Find the active Major Order and its target

Use the Control Centre terminal, located opposite the armoury, to review context for ongoing campaigns and their Major Orders. Then check the Galactic Map and Major Orders display for the current objective and destinations. Arrowhead introduced the Control Centre with update 6.3.0 to provide more campaign context; Xbox Wire’s boot-camp guide also points players to the Galactic Map and Major Orders for current destinations and time-limited objectives. Before deploying, identify what the order actually asks for. It may specify a planet, defense campaigns, missions, or a broader campaign objective. The currently eligible Automaton targets and deadline are live-game details, so use the in-game order rather than assuming a particular planet is under attack.

Choose a destination that matches the order

Select an eligible target shown by the order and Galactic Map. If the game lists multiple eligible destinations, compare them using the order’s explicit requirements, the remaining time and the mission objective. Do not choose a planet solely because it appears popular on an external tracker: the reviewed official guidance does not establish the current targets or a scoring formula that would make one choice mathematically best.

Major Orders are community-wide and time-limited. Capturing worlds, repelling invasions and completing missions are ways players contribute to the Galactic War, but the exact contribution required for a particular defense order comes from its live objective. Your squad can help by deploying to a matching target and completing the mission objective; no specific formation or loadout is established as a guarantee of a campaign win.

Keep the squad focused on the mission objective

Once deployed, use the objective UI to keep the squad aligned on the mission’s immediate task. Agree on roles and communicate when the objective or battlefield changes. These are practical coordination steps, not a claim that a particular tactic or equipment setup will determine the planetary outcome. The available official sources do not rank weapons, stratagems or difficulty settings for an active Automaton defense campaign.

What changed in Evacuate High-Value Assets

Arrowhead’s 7.1.0 update, dated October 7, 2026, changed Evacuate High-Value Assets: it increased the maximum number of waves, shortened intervals between waves and increased enemy spawns. The update also added generator health percentages to the objective UI and generator state to the minimap. In this mission type, monitor the generator indicators and be ready for sustained pressure; these changes are specific to Evacuate High-Value Assets, not every defense mission. Understand the campaign-level reward condition

A campaign and its current Major Order are related, but they are not the same objective. Arrowhead says a campaign may offer a reward if Helldivers win a majority of that campaign’s Major Orders. That is a campaign-level condition; follow the active order’s own objective for what to do now. The campaign’s current status and any reward details should be checked in-game.

Recheck progress before the deadline

Because Major Orders and defense progress are time-limited, revisit the Galactic Map and order display to check the current outcome, remaining targets and time. Arrowhead’s official patch index listed 7.1.0 as the latest update on October 8, 2026; live campaign details can still change after that date. Check Arrowhead’s latest patch notes for subsequent changes, and rely on the game itself for the active order.
