Helldivers 2: Omens of Tyranny brought back the Illuminate, added missions in Super Earth colony streets, and introduced the Fast Recon Vehicle (FRV). PlayStation announced the update as live on December 12, 2024, so it is a past release—not a newly launched October 2026 update.
What Omens of Tyranny added
The December 12, 2024 update centered on three additions: a returning enemy faction, urban mission areas, and a squad vehicle. PlayStation’s announcement described the change as taking the fight into Super Earth’s colonies, while its update summary also characterized the new missions as urban warfare.

- The Illuminate return: The faction once again threatens Super Earth.
- Colony street missions: Battles move into streets, alleys, and branching urban routes.
- The Fast Recon Vehicle: A drivable vehicle that lets a squad travel together and fight from the vehicle.
Who are the Illuminate and the Voteless?
Omens of Tyranny reintroduced the Illuminate as an enemy faction. In the update’s fictional account, they abduct citizens and mind-control them, turning those people into the Voteless. The announcement presented this threat as the context for the new fighting on Super Earth colonies.
How colony streets change the mission setting
Instead of relying only on open terrain, these missions take place among colony streets and alleys, where routes branch and encounters happen at closer range. That changes the kind of space players navigate: open ground and longer sightlines give way to tighter streets and more confined approaches. The official announcement put it plainly: “Omens of Tyranny is bringing the fight into the streets, with new mission areas inside Super Earth’s many colonies,” wrote Katherine Baskin, Social Media and Community Manager at Arrowhead Game Studios. PlayStation.Blog’s announcement and PlayStation’s game overview describe the update’s urban-combat setting.

What the Fast Recon Vehicle does
The Fast Recon Vehicle is a manual-transmission reconnaissance and combat vehicle. A squad can ride together, and passengers can fire from its windows, combining transport with an opportunity to engage enemies on the move. The announcement establishes those capabilities, but does not provide a measured speed, durability, or balance comparison with other ways to travel.

Omens of Tyranny is specifically the December 2024 release. It should not be confused with later content: Arrowhead’s Devoid of Liberty 7.0.0 patch notes cover mutated Illuminate enemies and SEAF support, while Xbox Wire’s August 2026 article discusses the Devoid of Liberty update.

A further distinction matters for the vehicle: a July 2026 announcement said the M-103 Supply FRV would become permanently available in October 2026 for Requisition slips. That is a later vehicle variant, not the original FRV addition described in Omens of Tyranny. The announcement does not establish the Supply FRV’s status after that stated availability date.
