Helldivers 2’s “Mixed” label refers to its recent Steam reviews, not a verdict covering every platform or the game’s lifetime rating. In May 2026, a separate downturn drew attention after recent Steam reviews were reported as Mostly Negative; by June 27, PC Gamer said the recent rating had climbed to the upper end of Mixed. The exact percentage and trigger for the headline’s particular review swing are not verified, so it would be misleading to pin it on one patch or issue.
What “Mixed” means in this story
Steam review labels are based on player reviews posted on Steam. They should not be read as a poll of all Helldivers 2 players, a rating for every platform, or the game’s overall lifetime score. The available reporting on this episode concerns recent Steam reviews.

Valve says Steam reviews can reflect how customers feel about a game as well as its value, business practices, and community experience. Its Steamworks documentation defines a review bomb as “a large amount of players [who] use reviews to voice their unhappiness, lower a review score and provoke a response.” That describes a pattern of activity; it does not show that every negative review is coordinated or unrelated to the game itself. The May 8 report is useful context for the broader spell of dissatisfaction, but it does not supply a verified count or percentage for the particular “back to Mixed” event in the headline. Do not treat the May 8 sample as that event’s starting point or calculate an unreported swing from it.

What players were reported to be unhappy about
Windows Central’s May 8 account summarized complaints about persistent bugs, confusing balance changes, limited endgame progression, and difficulty earning Super Credits at higher levels. PC Gamer’s contemporaneous coverage also discussed criticism of the Exo Experts warbond and community perceptions that too much content was being put behind paid purchases. These are reported player concerns, not a formal Arrowhead incident report or proof that any single issue caused the rating movement.
What Arrowhead said it was addressing
In coverage published May 8, Arrowhead said it was working on meta-progression and the Galactic War, had expanded the team working in that area, and wanted to explain balance updates more clearly. The studio was quoted as saying: “Helldivers 2 matters to all of us and we want to be clearer about what we’re working on and what’s coming next.” These were the studio’s plans and stated priorities at that date, not a guarantee that each concern had been resolved.

By June 27, PC Gamer reported that many changes had been implemented and that recent Steam reviews were back at the upper end of Mixed. Its report also noted a planned warbond delay, but did not establish a definitive reason for it. Neither detail identifies a single cause for the headline’s review swing.

Maintenance context is not a cause of the earlier rating shift
Arrowhead’s known-issues page, updated October 7, 2026, says it lists common issues confirmed as due to be fixed but is not exhaustive. The studio says most crash, performance, and connectivity problems are ongoing work and are not listed.
