“Server Request Failed” means Helldivers 2 could not complete a request to an online service; the message alone does not identify whether the problem is with the game service, your platform’s network, or your own connection. Check for an official service or maintenance notice first. If none is posted, work through the low-risk checks below before changing network settings.
Check whether Helldivers 2 or your platform is having a service issue
Look at PlayStation’s Helldivers 2 support page and Arrowhead’s official support and announcement channels for current notices. Also check the service information for the platform you use. If maintenance is underway or many players report the same problem, wait for service to return and try again; local troubleshooting is unlikely to resolve a service-side interruption.

A maintenance notice on the official Helldivers 2 Steam listing was posted October 5, 2026, for scheduled maintenance on October 6. That notice is historical as of October 8, 2026, and does not establish that the game was down on October 8. Check the Steam listing for current notices.
Try these low-risk fixes in order
- Fully close and relaunch the game. Exit Helldivers 2 rather than leaving it suspended, then open it again. If the request still fails, restart your console or PC. This resets the session but is not a guaranteed fix for every server-request error.
- Check for updates. Install any available Helldivers 2 update and, on PlayStation, system software updates. Arrowhead includes update checks in its general PS5 technical-issues guidance: I’m having technical issues on PS5. On PC, check the game’s update status in Steam.
- Restart your router. Power-cycle your router, let it reconnect fully, then retry the game. Arrowhead recommends a router restart in its general PS5 troubleshooting guidance. If other internet services are failing too, check your internet provider’s outage information or contact its support.
- Test whether Wi-Fi is unstable. If practical, connect your PC or console to the router with Ethernet and try again. If that changes the result, it points to a possible wireless-path issue; it does not prove the cause of the original failed request or fix a game-service outage.
For Steam players: verify the game files
If the service appears available, updates are installed, and a restart did not help, file verification is a reasonable PC follow-up. In Steam, open Library, right-click HELLDIVERS 2, choose Properties, select Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files. Wait for Steam to finish before launching again. This checks local installation files; it cannot restore an unavailable online service.

Do not assume every version of the error has the same cause
Players may encounter the wording while opening the game, logging in, waiting after the intro, or trying to use matchmaking. Those situations all involve an unsuccessful online request, but they do not establish one shared fault. A February 2024 guide described the message as “Error Code 1” and linked it to launch-era congestion; that historical explanation should not be treated as a diagnosis for current occurrences. Community references to “-1” and other codes likewise do not establish that the labels are interchangeable. Charlie INTEL’s February 2024 guide is historical, not a current service-status source.
A wired-connection test can help isolate a possible Wi-Fi problem, but there is no established universal fix in the available guidance. Avoid changing DNS, firewall, VPN, or advanced router settings as a first response: the error message does not show that any of those settings caused it.

When contacting support, note your platform, when the message appears, whether other online services work, and which basic checks you have tried.
