Helldivers 2’s Into the Unjust: 6.0.1 update introduces the Bastion Tank and raises base melee damage by 50%, while reducing the melee bonuses granted by armor passives. The patch also adjusts weapon handling, high-difficulty intensity, and enemy damage against durable targets.
What the Bastion Tank brings
Arrowhead Game Studios introduced the Bastion Tank as a vehicle intended to bring substantial firepower and defense to the battlefield, with the studio emphasizing that players will need teamwork to hunt down enemies. Arrowhead’s 6.0.1 notes call it a tank; contemporaneous coverage describes a drivable vehicle stratagem armed with a 120mm high-velocity cannon and a coaxial machine gun. PC Gamer later corrected its description to clarify that the Bastion has no rotating turret, making “tank destroyer” a more precise classification than a conventional battle tank. PC Gamer’s report provides that equipment detail and correction.

How the melee rebalance works
Arrowhead increased damage for all melee weapons, including bayonet attacks, while cutting the melee damage bonuses on three armor passives. The studio’s stated aim was to make the passive less mandatory while keeping it useful. In the 6.0.1 notes, Arrowhead says base melee attacks received a 50% damage increase.

The weapon figures are damage values in Arrowhead’s 6.0.1 patch notes, not independent test results. The design tradeoff is that melee weapons hit harder without relying as heavily on armor: Arrowhead says total damage with the melee armor passive would be higher or the same as before, despite the smaller listed bonuses. The updated values are documented in the official 6.0.1 notes.

Other changes in 6.0.1
- Weapon handling: The update reduced sway modifiers for SMGs and pistols.
- Weapon controls: Several weapon-function inputs were consolidated onto the left direction.
- High difficulties: Difficulty intensity increased at level 9 and above, with a particularly strong effect on the Automaton front.
- Durable targets: The patch adjusted enemy damage against durable targets, including vehicles.
How the later Bastion changes differ
Arrowhead’s later Machinery of Oppression: 6.3.0 notes make a separate change to the Bastion: it receives heavy armor, so it should ignore more small attacks and withstand more medium attacks, while its survivability against heavy attacks remains unchanged. Those notes also allow certain Premium Warbond vehicle patterns to be applied to the Bastion. These are 6.3.0 changes, not part of the 6.0.1 tank introduction. Arrowhead’s 6.3.0 notes describe the later vehicle updates.

The patch is identified here by its name, Into the Unjust: 6.0.1, rather than an unqualified release date. Arrowhead’s official page displays publication metadata of August 30, 2026, while PC Gamer’s contemporaneous report dates the tank update to February 3, 2026. Those dates conflict, so the available sources do not support presenting either as the uncontested original release date.
