What this Helldivers 2 weapon tier list actually covers
The shortlist evaluates 10 primary weapons and three secondary weapons. It assumes a general-purpose squad loadout used at close to mid range against all three factions, without a supply backpack. It is not a ranking of the whole armory: support weapons are outside its scope, and the source does not provide a verified faction-by-faction ranking.

SG-225IE Breaker Incendiary
The guide names the Breaker Incendiary as one of its strongest primary choices. Its explanation is that lingering fire damage can continue hurting enemies after the initial shot. That may make it useful when fighting groups, but the guide’s claim is an editorial rationale, not a controlled comparison.

AR-23P Liberator Penetrator
The Liberator Penetrator is the other leading primary recommendation. The guide highlights that it is the only Liberator variant in its shortlist with medium armor penetration. That distinction matters when the intended target’s armor is beyond what a lighter-penetrating weapon can handle; it does not by itself establish that the Penetrator is best for every target or faction.
P-4 Senator
The guide’s top secondary recommendation is the P-4 Senator. Its shortlist names it as the strongest secondary, but the available material does not provide a verified all-secondary comparison or a universal ranking across mission types.
How to choose a weapon for the mission
A tier label is less useful than matching a weapon to the enemy, target, and job you need it to do. The shortlist compares armor penetration, damage and damage per magazine, ammunition economy, and special functions such as stagger, fire, explosive rounds, or an underbarrel attachment.

- Start with the target’s armor. If the weapon cannot penetrate the target’s armor, its damage potential may not translate into useful damage. The Liberator Penetrator’s medium armor penetration is the specific example the guide emphasizes.
- Consider useful damage per magazine. A weapon’s headline damage is only part of the picture; how much damage it can deliver before reloading affects its value against groups and tougher enemies.
- Account for ammunition supply. Ammo economy and whether the loadout includes a supply backpack change how sustainable a weapon is over a mission. The shortlist assumes no supply backpack.
- Value special effects for the encounter. Fire, stagger, explosive rounds, or an underbarrel attachment can change how a weapon handles a particular threat. The guide describes the LAS-16 Trident as effective against close groups of lightly armored enemies, but less effective at hitting small weak points at range.
Faction, mission, target, and personal play style can all affect how a weapon feels. A single universal tier can obscure these tradeoffs, so treat the shortlist as a starting point and prioritize the matchup you expect to face.

Patch context and examples of recent changes
The tier-list source reports that Patch 7.1.1 was a crash-only hotfix live on September 24, 2026, and that Patch 7.1.0 on September 22 contained the latest weapon balance changes as of the guide’s September 25 publication. These patch descriptions are reported by the guide; its underlying official Arrowhead notes were not independently checked here.
The guide reports two relevant 7.1.0 adjustments: the One-Two’s underbarrel grenade count at mission start increased from 2 to 3, its maximum spare grenades increased from 3 to 5, and its refill amount increased from 3 to 5; the LAS-16 Trident’s vertical-climb recoil was reduced from 12 to 2. These are source-reported patch figures, not a fresh verification of the current in-game values.

Weapon unlock costs are separate from combat rankings
A listed Medal price may not be the full progression cost for a new player, because Warbond pages require spending Medals on earlier pages to unlock access. The guide gives the AR-23P Liberator Penetrator as an example: it lists the weapon at 40 Medals, while estimating that reaching it through a fresh Warbond path requires at least 300 Medals. It also reports that Premium Warbonds cost 1,000 Super Credits and that the base AR-23 Liberator is available after training. These are guide-reported progression details; check the current in-game Warbond before planning a purchase.
Why no tier list is objectively correct
Players dispute tier placements because weapons perform differently with different targets, missions, loadouts, and preferences. A Reddit discussion titled “objectively correct tier list” illustrates the phrasing players use, but disagreement in its comments is not evidence of an objective consensus. Community posts can surface useful questions and perceived tradeoffs; they do not establish statistical weapon performance.
Broader primary, secondary, and support weapon lists surfaced in search results, but their pages could not be opened for verification. Their specific placements therefore cannot be treated as established rankings here. An older official Arrowhead balance note, Patch 01.000.300, recorded changes including increased Dagger and Liberator damage and reduced Dominator damage; those older changes should not be mistaken for the current balance state.
