Helldivers 2 players liberated Seyshel Beach’s New Alexandria, turning a community campaign into an unofficial tribute to the city doomed in Halo: Reach. The “second chance” is a fan interpretation of two separate game worlds—not a crossover or confirmed shared canon.
Why Helldivers 2 players rallied to Seyshel Beach
Seyshel Beach became the focus of an unusually determined Helldivers 2 campaign even while other major orders were active. The attraction for some players was the planet’s city name: New Alexandria, which also names a Halo: Reach campaign mission set in a city under attack.

PC Gamer reported on October 18, 2025, that an estimated 30,000 players took part, citing a Reddit thread. That figure is a community-derived estimate, not an official player tally. The report also reproduced a player’s question—“Am I missing something? We have major orders.”—which captures why the diversion surprised some Helldivers.
What happened after the liberation
After Seyshel Beach was liberated, Arrowhead’s social account recognized the campaign. As quoted by PC Gamer, the post said: “The planet Seyshel Beach was liberated earlier this week following a long and concerted campaign by a small but inexplicably dedicated group of Helldivers.” The report says residents voted to mark the victory with Avengement Day. The official Halo account then posted a remembrance graphic.

A commenter in the Reddit discussion, also reproduced by PC Gamer, explained the sentiment this way: “It’s home of the Halo divers… they will not suffer the fall of Reach a second time.” That was a community member’s framing, not an official explanation from either game’s developers.
What New Alexandria means in Halo: Reach
In Halo: Reach, New Alexandria is the eighth campaign level. It takes place on August 23, 2552, several hours after “Exodus.” Covenant forces are jamming communications to Command, and Noble Six pilots a Falcon to destroy the jammers and support UNSC forces. The objectives can occur in different orders, with encounters randomized, according to Halopedia’s level summary.

The mission’s city is already under attack, and its stakes worsen as Covenant battlecruisers arrive and begin glassing the outskirts. The Halo.Bungie.Org cutscene library describes the opening as Noble Six seeing the damage while still having a job to do, and the ending as Noble Team receiving a crushing blow.

The parallel is emotional, not canonical. Halo: Reach presents New Alexandria’s fall as part of an authored campaign narrative; Helldivers 2’s Seyshel Beach campaign gave players a chance to influence whether a similarly named city survived. That contrast—an outcome players could help secure against a fictional defeat they could not prevent in Reach—made “saving New Alexandria” a resonant community story.

Neither the reporting nor the cited Halo material establishes that Seyshel Beach’s New Alexandria was an official reference to Halo. The connection arose from players recognizing the name and choosing to treat the campaign as a tribute. Readers who want to revisit the Halo mission can replay Halo: Reach’s “New Alexandria” level.
