High On Life 2 is a single-player comedy FPS built around talking alien guns, close-quarters stabbing, exploration, and skateboard traversal. Its jokes and steady stream of ideas are a major draw, but PC Gamer’s review also flags uneven weapon identities, technical problems in the PC build it played, and a skateboard that never felt as fast as the reviewer wanted. The available evidence supports calling it joke-forward and skate-equipped—not proving that it is categorically faster or funnier than the first game.
What kind of game is High On Life 2?
Squanch Games frames the story around an intergalactic conspiracy threatening humanity. According to PC Gamer, players again take the role of the bounty hunter known as the Outlaw. The core loop combines first-person shooting with talking weapons, stabbing, exploration, and skating through varied locations.

That mix makes the skateboard more than a decorative extra: it is part of how you move through the game. But traversal being present is not the same as it feeling especially fast, and that distinction matters to the sequel’s pitch.
The PlayStation Store lists the PS5 game as a Shooter and Adventure title for one player. It lists English voice acting and screen languages including English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Mexican Spanish, and Simplified Chinese.

Does the humor work?
For PC Gamer, the humor and creative volume of ideas were among the game’s strengths. The reviewer singled out the opening’s interactive montage and described the tone as goofy and good-natured. The jokes are not just dialogue laid over a conventional shooter: the game also aims to make humor part of what players do.
In a February 13, 2026 interview with Xbox Wire, narrative director Alec Robbins explained the studio’s approach: “If it makes us laugh, nine times out of ten it makes it into the game.” He also said, “A lot of good comedy comes from surprise,” describing a blend of grounded humor and surprising interactive moments. Xbox Wire notes that newer Gatlians arrive earlier in the sequel, giving the writing opportunities to build stories around their arrival.
Rank #2
- Shoot your way through hordes of opponents with a whole range of charismatic alien weapons in fast-paced, hyperactive battles
- Join the alien cops in the face and grin yourself into freedom with your mega-crass new skateboard
- Fall into a crazy life with an eccentric troop of bizarre and subversive creatures that all find you right sharp
- Contents: the game and a bonus weapons Skin DLC (code is included in the box)
That is a useful way to understand the game’s appeal: it prizes comic surprise and a high volume of ideas. It does not establish that every joke lands, or that the sequel is objectively funnier than its predecessor.
How do the shooting and skateboard traversal hold up?
Talking weapons and combat variety
Talking guns give the arsenal personality, but PC Gamer found that the weapons became insufficiently distinct as the selection grew. That is a meaningful trade-off for a shooter whose combat tools are also part of its comedy: memorable voices do not automatically make each weapon feel different to use.

Skating and pace
The skateboard expands traversal, but PC Gamer’s reviewer felt it did not reach the speed they wanted. The evidence therefore supports skating as a defining movement feature, not a blanket claim that the sequel is faster than the first game. No controlled first-game comparison is established here.
How long is the story, and what did critics think?
PC Gamer estimated a 10–12 hour story and scored the game 75. Those are one outlet’s runtime estimate and review score, not a guaranteed playtime or an aggregate rating. Your time may differ with your pace and how much you explore.

The review’s positive case centers on the interactive opening, the flow of comic ideas, and the good-natured humor. Its reservations include the weapons’ diminishing distinction, the skateboard’s speed progression, readability issues, and bugs or scripting problems in the pre-release build it reviewed.

PC Gamer reported an average near 90 fps at high settings and 1440p on a system with an RTX 5090 and Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The same reviewer said one level performed poorly regardless of settings. These observations describe that reviewer’s experience with a particular pre-release build and high-end PC; they do not predict performance on every configuration or establish the state of later builds.

Where can you play High On Life 2?
Squanch Games lists the game for Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, Xbox, Epic Games Store, PlayStation, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The PlayStation Store gives the PS5 release date as February 13, 2026. Platform access, storefront availability, and subscription terms can vary by region and change over time.
Squanch Games also announced a free demo for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on July 1, 2026, and says demo save progress transfers to the full game. If you are unsure whether the humor or combat suits you, trying the demo is a direct way to judge the game’s tone and feel.
Is High On Life 2 worth playing?
It is most appealing if you want a single-player shooter where comedy is woven into the weapons, scenes, and traversal rather than kept in occasional cutscenes. PC Gamer’s review suggests the humor and imaginative momentum can carry the experience, while its criticisms make clear that the combat distinctions, movement pace, readability, and reviewed PC build did not work equally well throughout.
There is no established direct benchmark here to prove that the sequel is faster or funnier than the original. A more grounded expectation is a joke-dense follow-up that adds skating and continues the talking-gun premise, with strengths and rough edges documented by one outlet’s review.
