It is not a smaller version of the mainline games’ real-time stealth action: each level is a fixed puzzle of routes, enemies, and objectives. That focus is its appeal, though replaying a stage to meet optional challenge requirements may feel repetitive to some players.
What is Hitman GO: Definitive Edition?
It is a turn-based strategy puzzle game set in the Hitman universe. Instead of freely exploring a real-time environment, you move through fixed spaces on a grid, planning around enemy positions and deciding how to reach a target or infiltrate a guarded location. The result is a stylized interpretation of stealth and assassination, presented like a miniature board-game diorama.

The official Steam description calls it “simple to play, but difficult to master.” The PlayStation Store listing likewise describes navigating fixed grid spaces to avoid enemies and pursue objectives. Those descriptions capture the game’s central trade-off: the action is constrained, but success depends on thinking through consequences before moving.
How the puzzle loop works
Each stage gives you a board, a route to consider, enemy positions to account for, and an objective. Movement is deliberate and turn-based, so the challenge comes from reading the situation and choosing a sequence of moves rather than reacting in real time. The store listings emphasize forward planning and challenging levels; the format makes enemy movement and route choice the core of play.

#1 Best Overall
- Basic game that includes all seven locations from the first season
- All bonus missions including Patient Zero Campaign
- Over 100 hours of play time
- Also includes the Requiem Blood Money Pack
This structure makes Hitman GO a better fit for players who like compact logic challenges than for anyone expecting the open-ended approach or real-time action of the mainline Hitman games. Think of it as a puzzle spin-off that borrows the series’ stealth vocabulary, not a conventional Hitman mission compressed onto a phone or console.
What works well
Stealth becomes a clear puzzle
The fixed grid makes threats and paths easy to read. Rather than relying on fast reactions, you can consider a route and work out how your moves interact with enemies and objectives. For fans of turn-based puzzles, that deliberate rhythm is the game’s strongest proposition.
Rank #2
- Base game that includes all seven locations of the first season
The board-game presentation suits the format
The diorama-style look supports the game’s compact, tabletop feel. Its visual concept is a distinct departure from the more realistic environments associated with the main series, and it reinforces that each level is a self-contained puzzle.
It can appeal beyond Hitman fans
You do not need to approach it as a substitute for a mainline entry. Players who enjoy turn-based planning and readable puzzle layouts may find the format appealing on its own, while series fans can appreciate how familiar stealth and assassination themes are reshaped for a very different kind of game.

What may frustrate players
Optional challenges can mean replaying a level
A verified PlayStation owner review published June 17, 2026 praised the puzzles as well thought out but said some challenge requirements led to playing a level more than once, which felt like padding to that reviewer. They also appreciated the instant restart button. This is one player’s experience, not a universal verdict, but it points to a real consideration: replay goals may add a satisfying extra constraint for some players and feel repetitive to others.
It is not mainline Hitman gameplay
If what you want is freedom to explore, improvise in real time, and approach a mission in the style of the core series, this spin-off’s fixed paths and turn-by-turn decisions may feel too restrictive. Its value depends on whether a board-game puzzle is what you want from a Hitman-branded game.
Platforms, edition, and features
This review concerns the Definitive Edition, not every release carrying the Hitman GO name. Steam lists the Windows PC Definitive Edition, developed by Square Enix Montréal and published by Crystal Dynamics, with a release date of February 23, 2016. Its listed features include single-player, achievements, trading cards, cloud saves, and family sharing; listed languages include English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), and Portuguese (Brazil).
The US PlayStation Store lists a PS4 version, and ESRB identifies the Definitive Edition for PS4, PS Vita, and Windows PC. The Apple App Store listing is titled Hitman GO and describes the mobile adaptation; that listing alone does not establish that it is the same edition or currently available on every device.

What do player ratings say?
These are storefront user ratings, not professional critic scores, and they are live aggregates that can change. The figures below were recorded on October 8, 2026; the Steam count is for English-language user reviews, while the Apple rating applies to the mobile listing rather than a Definitive Edition-specific product.
| Store listing | User rating | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | 86% positive from 990 English-language user reviews | Windows PC Definitive Edition; accessed October 8, 2026 |
| PlayStation Store | 4.33 out of 5 from 3,701 ratings | PS4 listing; accessed October 8, 2026 |
| Apple App Store | 4.7 out of 5 from 2.1K ratings | Mobile Hitman GO listing, not a Definitive Edition-specific rating; accessed October 8, 2026 |
These storefront numbers should not be combined into a single cross-platform score: they cover different listings and rating pools. No professional critic-score aggregate is established here.
Age rating and content
ESRB rates the Definitive Edition E10+ (Everyone 10+) for fantasy violence, suggestive themes, and alcohol and tobacco reference. The rating entry says there are no interactive elements. See the ESRB ratings information for the rating authority’s system.
Quick Recap
Who should play it?
- Try it if: you enjoy turn-based puzzles, careful route planning, and a compact board-game presentation.
- Be cautious if: you expect the freedom, improvisation, or real-time stealth action of the mainline Hitman games, or dislike replaying stages to satisfy optional goals.
- For series fans: approach it as a thoughtful spin-off built around Hitman themes, rather than as a replacement for a traditional entry.
