On Windows PC, Hogwarts Legacy saves are in different folders for Steam and Epic Games Store. Steam’s Input.ini config file is listed separately under the game’s local configuration folder. The paths below are for those Windows PC versions only.
Where are Hogwarts Legacy save files on Windows?
Portkey Games lists these save locations. Paste the path for your storefront into File Explorer’s address bar. Windows resolves %LOCALAPPDATA% to the current user’s local AppData folder.

These paths come from Portkey Games’ PC support guidance. They do not establish save locations for PlayStation, Xbox, Microsoft Store/Game Pass, or other platforms; console players should use their platform’s saved-data interface.
Where is the config file?
SteamDB’s file-system listing places the Steam version’s Input.ini at %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalHogwarts LegacySavedConfigWindowsNoEditor. This is third-party, Steam-specific information; it does not confirm the config path for Epic Games Store or other platforms, nor does it identify every configuration file in the folder.

Back up or move a save safely
Before changing or moving files, copy the relevant save folder to another location and leave the original untouched until you have confirmed the copy is usable. This is a precaution rather than a step required by Portkey Games. Steam’s backup guidance describes creating and retaining copies; it does not require a particular storage device.
Cloud saves are supported for both Steam and Epic Games Store, according to Portkey Games. Steam players switching between a desktop PC and Steam Deck should close the game on the Deck between sessions so cloud data can upload. If Steam reports a conflict between local and cloud files, compare the displayed timestamps with when and where you last played before choosing which version to keep. Steam warns that lost saves may not be recoverable through its support process.

Steam’s default local cloud userdata folder on Windows is C:Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata, but it is not the ordinary game save folder above. Steam stores game-specific cloud data beneath the account folder and app ID; see Steam Support’s cloud-save guidance.
If your save no longer appears in the in-game list
Portkey Games documents this fix for Windows PC when previous save data is missing from the list. Preserve a copy of the folder before changing files.

- Close Hogwarts Legacy and its launcher.
- Open the save folder for your storefront using the path above.
- Open the relevant numbered folder for Steam or alphanumeric folder for Epic Games Store.
- Delete
SaveGameList.sav. - Reopen the launcher, then launch the game.
This rebuilds the list; it does not recover a character or save data that was manually deleted earlier. Follow the full Portkey Games instructions if you need the storefront-specific folder details.
