Assignments unlock the spells that make later combat and puzzles manageable. Explore opportunistically, activate Floo Flames, and save most collectibles for a post-story regional sweep.
Use the main quest in your Quest log as the spine of the campaign, but complete every Professor Assignment as soon as it appears. Assignments unlock essential spells, while the Room of Requirement, broom travel, beast care, gear traits, talents, and Alohomora arrive gradually through story progression. You can do most side quests, relationship quests, collectibles, and exploration after the final repository sequence, so there is no need to delay the story for a premature 100% sweep.

Before you start
Choose a house with the right expectation
Your house changes the common room, colours, some dialogue, and one important early quest. It does not create four completely separate campaigns. The four house-specific versions are:
#1 Best Overall
| House | House-specific quest | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Slytherin | Scrope’s Last Hope | A different route, characters, and locations for the same broad story function. |
| Ravenclaw | Ollivander’s Heirloom | A different investigation and quest setting. |
| Hufflepuff | Prisoner of Love | The only version that visits Azkaban during this sequence. |
| Gryffindor | The Hunt for the Missing Pages | A different encounter and information-gathering route. |
Pick the house you actually want to play. Choosing a different house on a second save lets you see that branch, but it does not give you a wholly different main story.
Character creation, difficulty, wand, and appearance
- Character creation lets you customise your student’s appearance and voice. Your character’s appearance is not a permanent decision: later, Madam Snelling in Hogsmeade can change many cosmetic details.
- Choose difficulty in the settings when you begin. If combat becomes too easy or too demanding, open the pause menu and go to Settings → Gameplay Options to adjust it.
- You can choose your house and wand manually. Linking Wizarding World and WB Games accounts can import your house and wand information and unlock cosmetic rewards; it does not lock you out of choosing differently in the game.
- Difficulty changes do not replace preparation. Learning shield-breaking spells, using the correct spell colour, and completing Assignments usually helps more than simply carrying higher-level gear.
The spoiler-free game loop
- Open Pause menu → Quests and track the highest-priority main quest or Assignment.
- Use Revelio frequently. It highlights interactive objects, Field Guide pages, puzzle components, chests, and nearby points of interest.
- Pick up gear until your inventory is full, then sell or destroy low-value pieces. Once gear identification and the Room of Requirement are available, identify useful items and apply traits rather than hoarding everything.
- Return to Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the Room of Requirement when new quests appear. Spell unlocks and system introductions are deliberately staggered.
- Activate Floo Flames as you travel. They form the fast-travel network that makes later region cleanup dramatically quicker.
- Spend talent points periodically instead of saving every point for the end. A flexible set of spell, core, stealth, room, and combat-plant upgrades is more useful than a build that depends on one spell.
Recommended Hogwarts Legacy main-story route
The game’s open world allows optional quests to be completed in several orders. The sequence below is a dependable progression route, not a demand that every optional objective be completed at exactly that moment. If a quest listed here is missing, look at the active Assignment or relationship prerequisite shown in the Quest menu.
1. Prologue: reach Hogwarts
- Complete The Path to Hogwarts.
- Follow the introductory instructions for movement, Revelio, basic spellcasting, combat, and the first ancient-magic encounter.
- At Hogwarts, complete Welcome to Hogwarts.
Do not spend time trying to clear the entire map yet. Most of the useful exploration tools are not available, and early gear will be replaced quickly.

2. First days at Hogwarts and the first Hogsmeade visit
Complete the early school quests as they appear:
- Defence Against the Dark Arts Class
- Charms Class
- Weasley After Class
- Professor Ronen’s Assignment
- Welcome to Hogsmeade
Professor Ronen’s Assignment is an early progression priority because it teaches Reparo. The Assignment sends you after Flying Pages around Hogwarts; Revelio and the spell’s visual cues make them easier to locate. During Welcome to Hogsmeade, learn the basic shop loop, collect Floo Flames, and prepare for the first serious combat encounter rather than selling every potion and plant you find.
3. Early spell training and the restricted section
The next group introduces the game’s central mystery and several important spells:
- The Locket’s Secret
- Professor Hecat’s Assignment 1
- Secrets of the Restricted Section
- Tomes and Tribulations
- Professor Hecat’s Assignment 2
- Flying Class
- Potions Class
- The Girl from Uagadou
- Your house-specific quest: Scrope’s Last Hope, Ollivander’s Heirloom, Prisoner of Love, or The Hunt for the Missing Pages
Secrets of the Restricted Section is the first major stealth-and-exploration lesson. Use Disillusionment when instructed, follow the objective markers, and use Revelio in the library and underground passages. The house quest is not a permanent branch away from the campaign; after it, the main route converges again.
4. First exploration opening and ancient-magic trials
Progress through the quests that open the wider map and the first large collection of systems:
- Trials of Merlin
- The Helm of Urtkot
- The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom
- Astronomy Class
- Professor Garlick’s Assignment
- The High Keep
- Back on the Path
- Charles Rookwood’s Trial
Some of these quests may be interleaved with relationship content or additional story objectives depending on what you have already accepted. The important progression points are:
Rank #2
- Trials of Merlin introduces Merlin Trials. Carry Mallowsweet and activate each trial before attempting its solution.
- The Helm of Urtkot teaches the recurring moth-door puzzle language and rewards careful tomb exploration.
- The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom unlocks beast rescue and care, the Vivarium, and eventually the Enchanted Loom for gear traits and upgrades.
- Flying Class leads to broom access. Once the broom shop is available in Hogsmeade, buy a broom and use it for travel and balloon challenges.
- Charles Rookwood’s Trial expands the ancient-magic puzzle and combat format first introduced by the earlier trial.
5. Mid-game conflict
After the world and its core systems are open, use the Quest menu to work through the following campaign and character-story anchors:
- Fire and Vice
- Professor Weasley’s Assignment
- In the Shadow of the Mine
- It’s All Gobbledegook
- The Headmistress Speaks
- The Polyjuice Plot
- Niamh Fitzgerald’s Trial
Fire and Vice is also tied to Poppy Sweeting’s relationship content, so the Quest menu may classify or present it differently from a purely mandatory main quest. Do not abandon a relationship line because it appears beside the campaign: relationship quests are substantial content and frequently unlock useful encounters, rewards, and story context.
6. Late-game preparation and the final trial
- In the Shadow of the Mountain
- Lodgok’s Loyalty
- San Bakar’s Trial
Before beginning the final sequence, upgrade your preferred spell sets, keep healing potions available, and make sure you understand shield colours. This is a good point for a first regional cleanup, but not a requirement. The final trials and repository quests are still completable without having finished every Merlin Trial, collection, or relationship quest.
7. Endgame
- Wand Mastery
- The Final Repository
- Weasley’s Watchful Eye
- The post-story House Cup objective
Story completion is not 100% completion. After the final repository sequence, continue exploring, finish relationship and side quests, complete Challenges and Collections, and use the map’s regional counters to locate unfinished activities.
Professor Assignments: the progression checklist
Assignments are not filler. They are the game’s spell-training system, and later puzzles and fights assume that you have been completing them. A new Assignment can appear after a story quest, at a particular level, or after learning a prerequisite spell. Track it from Pause menu → Quests and complete it before pushing several more story quests ahead.
| Assignment | Main requirements | Reward and best timing |
|---|---|---|
| Professor Ronen’s Assignment | Collect the requested Flying Pages around Hogwarts. | Reparo. Complete it immediately in the opening Hogwarts section. |
| Professor Hecat’s Assignment 1 | Practise dodging attacks and use Incendio as directed against enemies. | Incendio. Do it before restricted-section and early combat content. |
| Professor Hecat’s Assignment 2 | Complete the requested duelling feats and combat spell uses. | Expelliarmus. Finish it as soon as it becomes available. |
| Professor Kogawa’s Assignment 1 | Pop the balloon clusters near Hogsmeade Station and the Quidditch pitch. | Glacius. Broom travel makes this quick. |
| Professor Kogawa’s Assignment 2 | Pop the balloon clusters near Keenbridge and Feldcroft. | Arresto Momentum. Complete it before relying heavily on movement-control puzzles. |
| Professor Garlick’s Assignment | Grow and harvest Fluxweed and use a Venomous Tentacula as requested. | Wingardium Leviosa. Finish it once the required plants are available. |
| Professor Garlick’s later Assignment | Grow and use the requested combat plants, including Chinese Chomping Cabbage and Mandrake. | Flipendo. Useful for combat and later puzzle interactions. |
| Professor Sharp’s Assignment 1 | Use a Focus Potion and the requested Maxima and Edurus potions. | Depulso. Brew rather than buy if ingredients are plentiful. |
| Professor Sharp’s Assignment 2 | Complete the requested potion-use objectives, including the assignment’s combat potion requirements. | Diffindo. Adds a strong long-range damage option. |
| Professor Onai’s Assignment | Collect the requested Troll Bogeys and complete the specified levitation/combat objective. | Descendo. Complete it when the Quest menu makes it available. |
| Professor Howin’s Assignment | Complete the beast-related capture objectives. | Bombarda. Save a combat-plant and beast trip for this Assignment rather than selling every resource. |
| Professor Weasley’s Assignment | Find the required Field Guide information and attend the related class. | Transformation. A useful control spell and a story-progression priority. |
Assignment objectives can be completed in different places than the current story objective. If the game asks for a potion, plant, enemy, or Field Guide page, do not wait for the campaign to lead you there. Visit the relevant shop, greenhouse, combat area, or Hogwarts wing and return to the professor when the checklist is complete.
When each major system unlocks
| System | How to use it | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Revelio and Field Guide | Cast Revelio while travelling, entering rooms, and approaching landmarks. Field Guide challenges track pages and other discoveries. | Do not assume an apparently empty room is complete; some pages are airborne or revealed only from a particular position. |
| Floo Flames | Interact with every visible Floo Flame and use the Map to fast-travel between discovered locations. | Do not leave remote regions for the final sweep without activating travel points. |
| Room of Requirement | After its story introduction, use the Room for potion brewing, plant cultivation, beast care, gear identification, and the Enchanted Loom. | Do not sell every ingredient. Keep a practical supply of potion materials, plant seeds, and beast materials. |
| Broom travel | Complete Flying Class, then purchase a broom when the Hogsmeade shop becomes available. Use it for distant objectives, balloons, and aerial travel. | Brooms cannot be used in every interior or restricted area. |
| Ancient Magic | Advance through the ancient-magic trials to unlock and improve the ancient-magic meter and related combat interactions. Collect ancient-magic hotspots during exploration. | Do not spend all resources on ordinary enemies if a difficult encounter is about to begin. |
| Talents | Once talents unlock through story progression, open the Field Guide’s Talents screen and spend points on the spell sets and core abilities you actually use. | There is no single mandatory build. Specialise only after you know whether you prefer control, direct damage, stealth, plants, or potions. |
| Beasts and Vivariums | Complete Beasts Class and The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom to rescue, feed, brush, and manage beasts. | Rescue capacity and Vivarium space are limited early, so return to the Room of Requirement regularly. |
| Gear identification and traits | Use the identification station in the Room of Requirement, then use the Enchanted Loom to add traits and upgrades when materials are available. | Do not spend rare materials on every low-level item. Upgrade gear you expect to keep for a while. |
| Alohomora | Complete The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament to learn Alohomora. Bring Demiguise Moons to Gladwin Moon to improve its lock level. | Demiguise statues can be collected at night. If one appears inactive, change the time using the Map’s wait function. |

Build spell sets around purpose
Rather than making one supposedly perfect build, create flexible sets: a general combat set, a puzzle and exploration set, a plant-and-potion set, and a set for spells you are currently levelling through Challenges. Assigning spells to several sets lets you switch without repeatedly opening the spell menu.
- Keep a reliable shield-breaking spell for each common colour.
- Use control spells to isolate dangerous targets, then follow with a damage spell.
- Tap Protego against a blockable attack. A well-timed Protego can create a Stupefy counter opportunity.
- Dodge attacks marked as unblockable rather than trying to shield through them.
- Use ancient magic when multiple enemies surround you or when a high-health target is vulnerable. Throwing environmental objects can also disrupt groups.
- Combat plants are genuine combat tools. Venomous Tentacula, Chinese Chomping Cabbage, and Mandrakes can damage or interrupt groups while you reposition.
- Use potions for difficult encounters instead of saving every bottle for an imaginary final fight. Focus, Edurus, Maxima, Thunderbrew, and Wiggenweld each solve different problems.
Simple encounter routine
- Cast Revelio before entering a hostile area so you can see enemies and usable objects.
- Identify shield colours and target the most dangerous enemy first.
- Break the shield with the correct colour, then combine control and damage spells.
- Use Protego and Stupefy against ordinary attacks; dodge red-warning attacks.
- When the ancient-magic prompt appears, use it rather than allowing the meter to sit full.
- Against large groups, deploy a combat plant, use a crowd-control spell, and move away from the centre of the arena.
Puzzle walkthroughs and recurring solutions
For almost every puzzle, identify the objective first, use Revelio, then solve the visible mechanism before searching for optional loot. The following solutions cover the recurring roadblocks.
Merlin Trials
- Carry Mallowsweet leaves.
- Interact with the central Merlin marker to activate the trial.
- Use Revelio to reveal nearby braziers, platforms, stone spheres, moths, or climbable surfaces.
- Complete the local mechanic rather than attacking the marker. Different trials use different solutions.
- Check Field Guide → Challenges for Merlin Trial milestones. Completing them expands gear capacity, which is one of the best reasons to do nearby trials during normal story travel.
Moth-mirror puzzles
- Cast Lumos near the glowing moth or moth swarm.
- Walk slowly to the empty frame or mechanism; the moth follows the light.
- Release Lumos when the moth reaches the frame.
- For a group of multiple frames, repeat the process. Use Revelio if a moth is hidden in a side room or behind a doorway.
In The Helm of Urtkot, search the tomb’s side rooms before leaving. The main objective is easy to follow once you understand the moth mechanic, but optional rooms contain loot that is easy to miss.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Eye chests
Use Disillusionment before approaching an eye chest. If the eye closes or the chest reacts, move out of sight, recast the concealment spell, and approach from farther away. These chests reward patience rather than a combat spell.
Arithmancy doors
- Read the numbers around the door. The creature symbols represent values from 0 through 9.
- Treat each triangular panel as an equation: the three corner values must add to the number in the centre.
- Determine the missing value and rotate the corresponding nearby symbol dial to the matching creature.
- Repeat for the second triangle, then interact with the door.
If you cannot remember a creature’s value, use the numbered symbol sequence around the door frame as the reference. The key issue is that the symbols are numbers, not merely decorative animals.
Hogwarts Secrets
The three Hogwarts Secrets use different mechanisms, but the same method works: cast Revelio, inspect the surrounding architecture, and return after unlocking more utility spells. The clock-tower secret relies on timing the moving mechanism; the viaduct secret uses the numbered braziers and their symbols; the Key of Admittance secret requires access to the upper part of the school and the appropriate key. If an area appears inaccessible, the correct response is usually progression or Alohomora, not a missed jump.
Demiguise statues
Demiguise Moons are collectible only at night. Use the Map’s wait option to change the time, then collect statues and return them to Gladwin Moon. More moons improve Alohomora so that higher-level locks can be opened. Mark locked doors on the map and revisit them after upgrading the spell instead of repeatedly trying to force them early.
Recommended Free Tools
The High Keep: battlement route and gate
- At Falbarton Castle, approach the marked outer wall and climb the battlements rather than looking for a ground-level entrance.
- Use the nearby mechanism and cast Depulso repeatedly to raise the gate.
- When a gap blocks the route, move the nearby crate beneath the ledge with a movement spell such as Wingardium Leviosa, then climb it.
- Continue across the battlements and up the wall. Use Revelio to identify climbable surfaces and the next mechanism.
- At the main gate, operate the wheel mechanism with Depulso, move through as soon as the opening allows, and continue to the marked objective.
The common mistake is trying to open the gate from the wrong side or searching the ground for a door. The intended route is over the battlements.
Rank #4
In the Shadow of the Study: Slytherin snake doors
- Enter the study route with Sebastian and inspect each snake-door lock.
- Each lock has two rotating sections. Match the symbols shown on the door to the corresponding symbols on the two dials.
- Use the upper symbol for the upper section and the lower symbol for the lower section; the serpent position itself is not a clue to a separate code.
- Repeat for each door and continue through the passage.
A Bird in the Hand: Moonstone door
- Search the nearby area for the Moonstone and place it in the central receptacle.
- Inspect the circular floor and the two movable pillars. Their positions control which symbols receive light and shadow.
- Move the pillars around the circle until the projected pattern lines up with the matching symbols on the door.
- When both alignments are correct, the Moonstone door opens. Use Revelio if one pillar or the central placement point is difficult to see.
Do not waste time attacking the door or looking for a hidden key. The solution is the Moonstone pedestal followed by the two light-and-shadow alignments.
Treasure maps and vaults
Treasure-map drawings are landmarks, not coordinates. Compare the outline, bridge, statue, ruin, or tower in the drawing with the local map, then use Revelio at the suspected location. In treasure vaults, check whether the solution requires a movable cube, a nearby spell interaction, or a combat clear before assuming the chest is inaccessible.

Relationship quests are tracked separately from the central campaign. Open Pause menu → Quests and inspect the relationship and side-quest sections rather than relying only on the map. The game may hold a quest until you reach a level, finish a main quest, attend a class, or complete an earlier relationship step.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Sebastian Sallow
Sebastian’s line focuses on forbidden magic, family conflict, and Slytherin secrets. It includes the snake-door sequence in In the Shadow of the Study and contains the principal opportunities to learn the Unforgivable Curses. If you want those spells, follow every Sebastian relationship quest and read dialogue choices carefully. If you refuse one learning opportunity, check the later relationship quests before assuming the spell is permanently unavailable.
Because the line contains meaningful decisions and consequences, create a save before major conversations. The quests can be completed after the central story if you leave them unfinished, but delaying them also delays their spells and rewards.
Poppy Sweeting
Poppy’s relationship line is the best reason to keep beast-related systems active. It combines creature care, combat, exploration, and the centaur storyline. Fire and Vice and A Bird in the Hand are important anchors, but continue accepting Poppy’s follow-up objectives when they appear. Keep combat plants and a few potions available for her encounters.
Natsai Onai
Natty’s relationship line follows her investigation and opposition to Hogsmeade’s criminal activity. It adds city and countryside encounters separate from the ancient-magic plot. Accept her owl-post invitations and complete each available step before assuming the line has ended; some quests unlock only after a main-story milestone.
Other side quests
Side quests can unlock spells, shop access, gear, appearances, exploration areas, beast resources, and character stories. Take them when they are near your current travel route, but do not stop the main story simply to clear every icon. A sensible rule is:
- Complete a side quest immediately if it rewards a spell or opens a system.
- Accept relationship quests whenever their prerequisite is met.
- Do nearby combat, Merlin Trials, balloons, and treasure vaults while a region is already on your route.
- Leave remote collectibles and locked rooms for a broom-and-Alohomora cleanup pass.
100% completion checklist
Use the game’s own menus rather than a single external checklist. Progress is split across quests, challenges, collections, the Field Guide, gear, and regional map counters.
Quests
- Complete the main story, including the final House Cup objective.
- Complete all Professor Assignments.
- Complete all side quests.
- Complete Sebastian, Poppy, and Natty relationship questlines.
- Check the completed-quest lists in the Quest menu to find unfinished categories and abandoned-looking prerequisites.
Challenges and Field Guide
- Finish combat challenges for enemy types and combat actions.
- Finish exploration challenges for Merlin Trials, ancient-magic hotspots, balloons, Landing Platforms, Astronomy Tables, battle arenas, and other regional activities.
- Collect Field Guide pages, including Revelio pages and pages obtained through interaction, spells, flying, or puzzle solutions.
- Complete Room of Requirement, quest, and collection-related Challenge sections.
Collections
- Collect gear and gear appearances.
- Find wand handles, conjurations, traits, potion recipes, plant seeds, and ingredient-related discoveries.
- Rescue the available beast species and manage their Vivarium requirements.
- Record enemy types and collection entries as they appear rather than assuming the story alone fills them.
Map and regional activities
- Activate every Floo Flame.
- Complete Merlin Trials and claim their Challenge rewards to expand gear capacity.
- Clear treasure vaults, bandit camps, battle arenas, and cairn dungeons.
- Visit Astronomy Tables, Landing Platforms, and ancient-magic hotspots.
- Pop every balloon cluster.
- Complete Hogwarts Secrets and treasure maps.
- Collect Demiguise statues and upgrade Alohomora.
- Use the map’s region counters after zooming out to identify areas with incomplete objectives.
Efficient cleanup order
- Finish the story and all available Professor Assignments so every major spell and system is available.
- Unlock broom travel and activate Floo Flames while moving between objectives.
- Complete nearby Merlin Trials and camps during story travel to expand gear capacity and build combat resources.
- Finish relationship quests and any remaining side quests.
- Upgrade Alohomora and revisit locked doors and Demiguise locations at night.
- Perform a region-by-region sweep using the Map, Field Guide, Challenges, and Collections menus together.
- Return to the Room of Requirement to identify remaining gear, manage beasts, brew potions, and check missing recipes or traits.
What you can leave until after the story
For most players, it is safe to postpone collectibles, Merlin Trials, treasure vaults, Field Guide pages, enemy camps, balloons, Astronomy Tables, Landing Platforms, Hogwarts Secrets, and unfinished relationship quests. Published completion routes generally treat the post-story world as a cleanup phase: you can continue free-roaming after the central campaign.
The important exceptions are decision-sensitive moments. Sebastian’s Curse choices and other major dialogue decisions can affect what happens in that relationship line. Save before those conversations if you want a reversible choice. Do not confuse that with ordinary exploration: collectibles and most side content are not a reason to restart the game before the final quest.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsPlatform and current-version notes
Hogwarts Legacy is available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The current official homepage also lists Nintendo Switch 2 availability. Treat the original Nintendo Switch release and the Switch 2 listing as separate platform versions when checking compatibility, edition, and performance information.
Do not assume that advice about resolution, loading times, frame rate, visuals, save behaviour, or performance on one platform applies to another. Edition availability, sellers, and prices also change. If you are buying a copy, compare the current listing for your platform, such as Hogwarts Legacy PS5, rather than relying on an old launch-era listing.
PC troubleshooting before you play
- Install the current Hogwarts Legacy update for your platform.
- Update Windows and use the official GPU manufacturer’s driver page for your graphics card.
- Verify the game files through your PC storefront if files are missing or corrupted.
- Disable unnecessary overlays and background recording tools while testing a crash or severe stutter.
- Check the game’s current official patch notes before applying launch-era fixes. The official Steam announcements record later PC updates, including a June 10, 2025 Game and Creator Kit update and an October 15, 2025 PC patch.
If you still have a driver-related symptom, such as a missing device driver or a crash that begins after a driver change, you can check for outdated Windows drivers with a third-party utility such as Outbyte Driver Updater. Outbyte describes its tool as scanning installed devices, recommending official drivers, and offering backup and restore features for Windows 7 through Windows 11. It is optional: use official Windows, GPU, and hardware-manufacturer support first, and do not treat this tool as a Hogwarts Legacy-specific fix or guaranteed performance upgrade. This page may receive revenue from qualifying links.
How many main quests are there?
There is no single universal number because walkthrough sites classify Assignments and progression quests differently. One published count lists 42 main story quests, 57 side quests, 12 Assignments, and 24 relationship quests. Another describes 47 Main Quests by incorporating Assignments into the progression structure, while another presents 43 main missions by counting the final House Cup objective and the four house-specific versions separately.
These are counting-method differences, not evidence that one version of the game has a completely different campaign. For completion, use the game’s Quest, Challenges, Collections, Field Guide, and Map progress rather than trying to reconcile a number from a different guide.
Quick troubleshooting branches
- A main quest is not appearing
- Open Quests and check Assignments, relationship prerequisites, the displayed recommended level, and any owl-post message. Complete the required Assignment or advance the current main quest, then return to Hogwarts or wait for the next objective.
- A spell is missing
- Look for the professor’s Assignment rather than searching shops. Most combat and utility spells come from Assignments or story quests; Unforgivable Curses are tied to Sebastian’s relationship line.
- A door will not open
- Cast Revelio, check for a colour-matched spell interaction, and confirm that you have the required spell or Alohomora level. For Demiguise-related objects, change the time to night.
- Your gear inventory is full
- Sell or destroy low-level items, then complete Merlin Trials to increase gear capacity. Do not leave loot behind just because one trip filled the inventory.
- You cannot find a collectible
- Check whether it is a Revelio page, a flying page, a puzzle reward, a night-only Demiguise, or a locked-room item. Use the regional map counters and revisit the area after unlocking broom travel, Alohomora, or the required utility spell.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does house choice create a completely different Hogwarts Legacy campaign?
No. Your house changes the common room, dialogue, and one house-specific mission: Scrope’s Last Hope, Ollivander’s Heirloom, Prisoner of Love, or The Hunt for the Missing Pages. The campaigns converge afterward.
Can you finish side quests and 100% completion after the main story?
For most side quests, relationship quests, collectibles, Merlin Trials, Field Guide pages, camps, and exploration objectives, yes. You can continue free-roaming after the central story and complete unfinished content. Major dialogue choices, especially in Sebastian’s questline, should be treated separately because they can affect available outcomes or spell opportunities.
How do you unlock missing spells in Hogwarts Legacy?
Complete the relevant Professor Assignment. The game teaches most combat and utility spells through Assignments, while story quests introduce other systems. If you want Unforgivable Curses, follow Sebastian Sallow’s relationship quests and do not assume that refusing the first Crucio opportunity is your only chance.
What should you do when a Hogwarts Legacy puzzle seems impossible?
Use Revelio first, then identify the puzzle type. Moth mirrors require Lumos to escort a moth to its frame; eye chests require Disillusionment before approaching; Arithmancy doors use creature symbols as numbers from 0 through 9; snake doors require matching the symbols on their two rotating sections.
The Bottom Line
Best route: follow the main quest, complete every Professor Assignment promptly, unlock the Room of Requirement, broom, beasts, talents, gear traits, and Alohomora as they become available, then finish relationships and perform a region-by-region cleanup after the story. Your house changes one major mission, not the entire campaign, and most 100% objectives can safely wait until free roam.
