To unlock Silk and Soul, meet the Caretaker’s requirements in Songclave: complete the six specified Wishes, obtain the Faydown Cloak and Bellhome Key, move the Flea Caravan to Fleatopia, defeat Lace in the Cradle, and earn at least 17 quest points. Then accept the Wish from Bellhart’s Wishwall or speak to the Caretaker in Songclave. Finish the quest and choose the Needolin at the final Grand Mother Silk encounter to trigger the Snared Silk ending; Act 3 becomes available after the credits.
Silk and Soul unlock requirements
The Hollow Knight Wiki’s detailed checklist names these prerequisites. Its page is community-maintained, and no official developer checklist is established, so treat it as the clearest available list rather than a developer-confirmed statement.

The Wiki lists 25 points available: 22 from regular Wishes and 3 from six delivery Wishes. Delivery Wishes award their points only the first time they are completed. Once eligible, take Silk and Soul from the Wishwall in Bellhart or speak with the Caretaker in Songclave. The quest page attributes this eligibility hint to the Caretaker: “Oi! I’m wishin’ for that bothersome bellringer! That you readin’ this? Then head up top beside the shrine. Might be we two should have a little chat…”

How much optional content should you finish?
Walkthroughs recommend broader routes, but they do not agree on one universal minimum. The explicit checklist above is the most specific available threshold; clearing every Wish or finding every flea should not be treated as a confirmed requirement.

The Nintendo Life and PC Gamer paths are practical, more expansive routes—not controlled comparisons or proof that every listed side activity is mandatory. PC Gamer also says all quests, all fleas, and every town quest are not required. No official source or patch note resolves the difference between these walkthrough recommendations.

Find the four Soul Snare components
The Caretaker sends Hornet to collect four components. Three are given by characters or found after a boss; the Snare Setter is in a hidden workshop.

Choose the Needolin to enter Act 3
- After returning the four components, follow the quest objective back up the Cradle.
- Fight Grand Mother Silk again. At the final blow, play the Needolin when prompted to use the Soul Snare. Binding her instead leads to a different choice.
- After the Snared Silk ending credits, return to the save profile on the menu and reopen it. That save then begins Act 3. Hollow Knight Wiki: Acts
Ending warning: Choosing the Needolin triggers Snared Silk and permanently locks out the Weaver Queen and Twisted Child endings on that save profile. If you want those endings, make your choice before committing to the Soul Snare.
