Yes. When Hollow Knight: Silksong launched on Steam on September 4, 2025, it reportedly surpassed the original Hollow Knight’s then-current Steam concurrent-player record of 72,916 within 15 minutes. That is a launch-time comparison—not a claim that Silksong still holds a higher all-time peak today.
What happened at launch
TweakTown reported that Silksong passed the original game’s then-current Steam benchmark within 15 minutes of release, citing SteamDB metrics. The original’s 72,916-player figure had been reached on September 3, 2025, the day before Silksong launched, according to GamesRadar+.
GamesRadar+ later reported that Silksong reached 111,873 concurrent Steam players a few hours after launch. These are counts of people playing at the same time, not sales figures or a tally of everyone who played.
How the records compare now
The phrase “all-time peak” needs a date attached. The launch story compared Silksong with the original’s record as it stood on September 4, 2025. SteamDB’s current chart pages list higher peaks for both games:

The later chart records do not undo the 15-minute comparison: they show that both games went on to set new peaks after Silksong’s release.
What the player counts do—and do not—measure
The figures refer to concurrent Steam players. They are useful for comparing how many people were playing on Steam at the same time, but they do not establish copies sold, total players over time, revenue, or combined activity on PC and consoles. GamesRadar+’s launch comparison is specifically about PC players.
