To cross Blasted Steps, enter from Shellwood with Cling Grip, buy Shakra’s map for 70 Rosaries, and follow the winding climb toward the five-bell gate. Wind gusts, sand, and vertical platforming make the ascent hazardous; at the gate, play the Needolin to summon the Last Judge. The Great Conchflies and Pinstress are on an optional western detour.
Enter Blasted Steps from Shellwood
The Shellwood entrance is west of the area, near Shellwood’s Bellway-side bench. You need Cling Grip to enter by this route. Blasted Steps winds around a deep central pit before rising toward the Grand Gate, with connections to Bone Bottom, Sands of Karak, and Wasteland. The area layout and access requirement are documented by the Hollow Knight Wiki.
Wind periodically blows east and can disrupt your glide. When a jump calls for precise movement against the gust, wait for it to ease rather than committing to a long drift at the wrong moment. Hanging bells can serve as needle-bounce surfaces: strike one with a downward attack to gain height and continue upward. Avoid treating every flying enemy as mandatory; if a projectile-firing enemy makes a difficult stretch more dangerous and no nearby checkpoint is available, bypassing it may be safer.

Buy Shakra’s map
Shakra sells the Blasted Steps map for 70 Rosaries. Pick it up to make the area’s vertical links and side routes easier to track. Benches and shortcuts matter here because a failed climb can mean substantial backtracking. Bench access and local costs vary by route, so check what is available on your current path rather than relying on a fixed sequence of costs.

Look for pickups and opened routes
Inspect ledges, tunnels, and levers as you climb. One lower tunnel contains a Frayed Rosary String, and the route includes a Craftmetal pickup. The area map also marks a later Mask Shard, but reaching it requires returning with Clawline and double jump, according to the GamesRadar+ Blasted Steps guide. Treat that shard as a return visit, not a pickup you need to finish the summit route.
Optional detour: Great Conchflies and Pinstress
A western side route leads to the Great Conchflies. The pair share a fight space; the walkthrough reports that defeating one ends the encounter because the other flees. This detour is not required to reach the five-bell gate.

Continue beyond the encounter through wind-exposed platforms, using bells and bounce attacks to gain height, and you can reach Pinstress’s floating home. Climb to the five-bell gate
Return to the main vertical route and use cages, walls, and hanging bells to ascend. Open shortcuts when you find their levers: they can reduce the distance you must retrace after a fall. Watch for Driznits, whose bouncing projectiles can disrupt a jump, as well as Judges, Pilgrims, spikes, and falling rocks.

There is a route-side Craftmetal pickup, but do not mistake every climb for progress toward the summit: the GameFAQs walkthrough notes a dead-end climb to skip in favor of continuing right. Keep following the upward route until you reach the gate marked by five bells. Play the Needolin there to summon the Last Judge. How to fight the Last Judge
The Last Judge’s first phase is slow but hits hard. Its attacks include a slam, a thrown thurible that returns, and a spinning move that deflects projectiles. Keep enough distance to read the attack, then close in during the recovery after a slam or throw rather than trading hits.

At around half health, the thurible ignites and the fight shifts to faster fire attacks, including expanding rings and ground-fire effects. Move early when a broad attack begins, and prioritize avoiding its path over squeezing in an extra strike. These are recommendations from the cited walkthrough, not a claim that one weapon or tool setup is objectively optimal.
