Find the Surgeon’s Key on a corpse in Whiteward, then use it on the sluice beneath the operating theatre. The route to the key is hidden above the Morticians and requires Clawline; reaching Whiteward from the Choral Chambers requires the White Key.
Reach Whiteward
Whiteward is reached from the Choral Chambers by lift, which must first be unlocked with the White Key. Whiteward is a medical ward within the Citadel; Hornet describes its machines as tools used to instill bugs with thread and extend their lives.
Find the Surgeon’s Key
- Explore Whiteward until you reach the area with the Morticians.
- Search the ceiling above them for a concealed path and follow it into the western room.
- Use Clawline there to open a shaft. The falling debris reveals a Surgeon’s corpse holding the key; collect it.
Hornet’s reflection on the ward’s procedures adds a darker context: “Their procedures with Silk may have prolonged life within the Citadel, but they unknowingly gifted many minds to the monarch.”
Use the key on the sluice
Return to the lower part of Whiteward. Find the sluice beneath the operating theatre, west of the bottom of the lift, and use the Surgeon’s Key on its lock.

What opening the sluice does
The sluice opens the route to the disposal pit and the Unravelled encounter. The encounter proceeds through alternating boss and enemy waves.
