Its precise design gives players plenty to explore and master, but its harshest punishments can frustrate. That tension—not whether the game is challenging—is the key question for anyone deciding whether to take on Team Cherry’s sequel.
Is Hollow Knight: Silksong worth playing?
For players who welcome a demanding action-adventure, yes. The strongest case for Silksong is the combination of carefully tuned play and an imaginative world that makes persistence rewarding. In PC Gamer’s September 13, 2025 review, Jordan Ramée wrote that “Silksong glows with a level of precision and imagination that’s hard to find anywhere else.” That is a reviewer’s judgment, not a guarantee that every player will enjoy its severity.
The qualification matters: the same review praised the game while wishing there were options to soften its nastiest punishments. Ramée wrote that it was “too good to let the brutal difficulty hold it back,” even while wishing for ways to tone down those moments. The result is a strong recommendation for players who like learning through difficult encounters, but a more cautious fit for anyone who wants adjustable difficulty or finds repeated setbacks draining. PC Gamer’s assessment followed more than 25 hours of the reviewer’s play; that figure describes the reviewer’s experience, not a completion-time estimate. Read PC Gamer’s review.
Is Silksong harder than Hollow Knight?
The available review evidence establishes that Silksong is punishing, but it does not provide a verified, direct comparison with Hollow Knight. It would therefore be too broad to call the sequel definitively harder. If you are choosing between them, consider your tolerance for challenging combat and platforming, how much you value exploration and world design, and whether the lack of options to soften the harshest moments is a deal-breaker.
