How to reach Mount Fay
From the west side of the Choral Chambers, enter The Slab and follow the route toward Mount Fay. The Slab has a Bellway, which can help with travel once you have access. Both the route through the Chambers and the standard climb rely on Clawline, so obtain that ability before making the ascent.
There is more than one way to reach the Underworks, the area associated with obtaining Clawline. PC Gamer describes reaching it via Whiteward and also notes an alternate route through the Whispering Vaults. Your exact approach can therefore vary; the key preparation for the usual Mount Fay climb is having Clawline.
How to climb Mount Fay safely
The mountain’s cold builds into a damaging hazard as you climb. Look for glowing warming lamps or fires and pause at them: these spots halt the cold effect and can clear it while you wait. Benches provide checkpoints, so use them to break the ascent into manageable sections rather than trying to rush through the hazard.

Guides differ on the number of benches along the route, so the count depends on the route or map being followed. Nintendo Life also recommends carrying Rosaries for map and bench costs, but those amounts can vary; check the relevant in-game costs rather than relying on a fixed total.
How to claim the Faydown Cloak
- Reach the summit of Mount Fay.
- Interact with the large tuning fork.
- Play the Needolin when prompted. The scene summons a Fayforn, which grants the Faydown Cloak.
What the Faydown Cloak does
The cloak lets Hornet jump again while already airborne, giving her an extra jump to reach higher platforms or reposition above enemies. Its in-game description reads: “Fabled feather down, layered within the cloak. Leap again while airborne. Soar above foes. Reach new heights. Strike from above.”

It also protects against Mount Fay’s freezing conditions, but it does not prevent damage from swimming in icy water. The Hollow Knight Wiki further lists several ways the extra jump refreshes: landing, clinging to a wall, performing a Needle Bounce, striking a hoop or other bounceable object with Clawline, or using a wind updraft.
