Hollow Knight: Silksong passed the original Hollow Knight’s Steam concurrent-player peak roughly 20 minutes after launch, according to a contemporary report citing SteamDB. That launch milestone is distinct from Silksong’s later all-time Steam peak of 587,150 players, recorded on 6 September 2025.
What Steam record did Silksong break?
It surpassed the original Hollow Knight’s game-specific peak for concurrent Steam players. Radio Times reported that Silksong reached 89,646 concurrent players around 20 minutes after its 4 September 2025 release, attributing the count to SteamDB: Radio Times’ launch report.

This was not a new Steam-wide all-time record. The claim concerns the comparison between two games’ Steam player peaks, not the number of people using Steam as a platform.
How many people played at launch?
The reported snapshot was 89,646 concurrent Steam players about 20 minutes after release. SteamDB lists Silksong’s Steam release time as 4 September 2025 at 14:00:10 UTC. The launch figure is a time-specific count, not a sales total or a count of everyone who had played the game.
