The studio says the nautically themed expansion will continue Hornet’s adventure and arrive in 2026, but it has not announced an exact release date.
What is the Sea of Sorrow DLC?
Sea of Sorrow is a nautically themed expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong. In the studio’s announcement, Team Cherry said development was already underway and described it as a continuation of Hornet’s adventures. The expansion will be free for all players, according to Team Cherry’s announcement, authored by Ari Gibson.
Gibson said it will include “New areas, bosses, tools, and more!” That is a preview, not a complete feature list; the studio has not yet detailed every area, boss, or tool.
When does Silksong’s free DLC come out?
Team Cherry has announced a 2026 release window, with no confirmed month or day. Its post says more information will be shared shortly before release, so a specific launch date and further details remain unannounced.

Which platforms will get Sea of Sorrow?
The announcement does not give a platform-by-platform availability list for the expansion. Team Cherry said the base game launched on all platforms on September 4, 2025, and was available on Xbox Game Pass from day one in its release notice. That confirms the base game’s rollout, not the DLC’s availability on each platform.

No. Team Cherry says the expansion is free for all players. The same announcement also introduced Silksong mini-figurines featuring Hornet, her friends, and rivals, with pre-orders through Fangamer’s Silksong collection. Those collectibles are merchandise, not a purchase required to access the expansion.
