Microsoft’s XBOX Nano Controller is a smaller, lighter Xbox gamepad for younger players, smaller hands and portable gaming. It costs $49.99 in the United States, opened for preorder on October 14, 2026, and is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026.
What the XBOX Nano Controller is
The XBOX Nano keeps the familiar Xbox control layout while reducing the controller to a little over five inches long and 3.5 ounces. Xbox describes it as its smallest controller—shorter and lighter than most modern smartphones. The design is intended to fit in a pocket or small bag for travel, visits to friends and family, and play away from the living room.

Despite its compact shell, the Nano retains all 18 standard gameplay inputs. That means it is designed to support ordinary Xbox games rather than functioning as a simplified children’s remote. Xbox specifically cites local and online play in games such as Minecraft Dungeons II and portable sessions of Forza Horizon 6.

Size and controls
Designed for smaller hands
The Nano’s main physical change is scale: just over five inches in length and 3.5 ounces. That should make it easier to hold for many children and adults with smaller hands, while reducing the space needed in a travel kit. Actual comfort still depends on hand size, grip style and game length.
Full Xbox input set
Xbox says the controller includes all 18 standard gameplay inputs in a familiar arrangement. The announcement does not identify a reduced button set or a separate control scheme, so games should use the same basic input expectations as a conventional Xbox controller.

Devices and wireless connections
The Nano supports both Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth. That combination is intended to cover compatible Xbox consoles plus phones, tablets, PCs and other supported devices. Bluetooth compatibility does not guarantee that every phone, television or game-streaming app will recognize every control feature; the host device and operating system must support the controller profile.
- Xbox consoles: Xbox Wireless is the primary console connection method.
- Phones and tablets: Bluetooth can support compatible mobile devices for cloud or native games.
- PCs: Xbox Wireless or Bluetooth can be used where the computer has the required support.
- Smart TVs and other devices: Connection depends on the model, operating system and game app.
