Prioritize Speed to a useful breakpoint, then Break Effect; pair Boothill with Ruan Mei, Fugue, and Gallagher when those characters are available. This is a guide-based recommendation, not a required or universally optimal setup.
What Boothill’s build needs to do
Boothill is a five-star Physical Hunt main DPS whose build centers on Break-focused, single-target damage. His equipment and teammates should support Break Effect while giving him enough Speed to act at the pace your team and encounter need. The recommendations below follow HSR-BUILD.COM’s Version 4.6 guide, updated September 26, 2026; its Light Cone ranking is attributed to Prydwen’s measured recommendations and depends on the superimpositions and team specified for each comparison. Which Light Cone should Boothill use?
Best listed option: Sailing Towards a Second Life
The Version 4.6 guide ranks Sailing Towards a Second Life first. Prydwen describes it as giving Break Effect, Break damage defense ignore, and a conditional Speed increase, all aligned with Boothill’s Break-focused build. Prydwen lists its source as Event Warp (limited), so check current in-game availability rather than assuming it is currently obtainable. Prydwen’s Boothill guide.
Alternatives named by the guide
The guide also lists Shadowed by Night, Adversarial, River Flows in Spring, Swordplay, and Cruising in the Stellar Sea. Choose among the options you own and the relevant superimposition; the leading limited cone is not a prerequisite for building Boothill.

- Honkai: Star Rail Pom-Pom Gallery Series Pom - Boothill
The page displays Sailing Towards a Second Life at 113.16% relative damage at S1 and the next listed option at 100% at S5. These are guide-reported comparisons with different superimpositions and stated team conditions, not a universal damage gain or a like-for-like comparison at equal investment. The ordering and ratios should be treated as source- and setup-specific, not a promise about every account.
Which relics and stats should you use?
Recommended set baseline
Use Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge as the core relic set and Talia: Kingdom of Banditry as the planar ornament in the Version 4.6 guide’s baseline. The guide also names Thief of Shooting Meteor and Eagle of Twilight Line as other relic-set options. Prydwen describes Iron Cavalry as providing Break Effect from its two-piece bonus and conditional defense ignore at Break Effect thresholds; consult the current in-game set text for exact effect wording. Prydwen’s Boothill guide.
Main stats and substats
- Body: flexible; the Version 4.6 guide summary says “Anything.”
- Feet: Speed.
- Sphere: flexible; the guide summary says “Anything.”
- Link Rope: Break Effect.
- Substats: pursue Speed toward a useful breakpoint and invest in Break Effect. The guide places Speed as a priority until the relevant breakpoint, or when other useful rolls are lacking, and says it should be at least comparable to Break Effect.
There is no single Speed target established by the cited guide summary for every team or account. Let your actual build and turn-order needs determine when another Speed roll stops helping more than Break Effect or another useful stat.
Build details are not identical across guides. Pocket Tactics’ February 16, 2026 article lists Attack body, Speed or Attack feet, Physical Damage sphere, Break Effect rope, and Break Effect/Speed/Attack substats, while also agreeing on the leading Light Cone and named set baseline. The later Version 4.6 guide is the primary recommendation here; its flexible body and sphere advice leaves room for useful pieces already in your inventory. Pocket Tactics’ Boothill guide.
Which traces should you level first?
The Version 4.6 guide’s priority is Talent > Skill > Ultimate > Basic. It lists Boothill’s Ultimate energy cost as 115 energy. Treat that figure and the priority as guide details for the referenced version; check the current in-game trace and Ultimate descriptions if a patch changes them.
What team should you use with Boothill?
Featured Break team
The Version 4.6 guide’s featured composition is Boothill / Ruan Mei / Fugue / Gallagher. Its stated role split is Boothill as the carry, Ruan Mei as the Break amplifier, Fugue as the Weakness-implant support, and Gallagher as sustain who also contributes Break. This gives the team damage support, access to the guide’s Weakness-implant role, and sustain in one lineup.
Choosing a practical team
Use that lineup as a template rather than a rule. The available sources do not provide a complete replacement matrix or establish one universally optimal substitute for any of its members. When adapting it, consider which Break amplification, Weakness access, and sustain roles your roster can cover, as well as the encounter’s weaknesses. If you lack one of the named characters, the evidence here supports choosing around those functions; it does not establish a specific replacement as best.
Quick Recap
How to make the build work on your account
- Start with what you own. Equip the best available listed Light Cone; Sailing Towards a Second Life leads the cited ranking, but its limited status and comparison conditions make it an upgrade option rather than a build requirement.
- Build toward the recommended stats. Use Speed feet and a Break Effect rope, then assess body and sphere by the quality of their useful rolls.
- Balance Speed and Break Effect. Reach a Speed breakpoint that matters for your team and encounter; beyond it, compare additional Speed with Break Effect instead of pursuing Speed without a target.
- Fill team functions. Use the featured Ruan Mei/Fugue/Gallagher lineup if available, or assemble supports and sustain based on the roles and enemy weaknesses you need to address.
