The strongest choice depends on whether you want flexible elemental and component utility, close-range pressure, or precise long-range damage. This ranked list is an editorial shortlist of ten named bows supported by the available guides—not a claim that their exact stats or acquisition costs have been tested side by side. It covers base-game and named legendary recommendations, but does not present a separate ranking of Burning Shores or New Game+ equipment.
How this ranking works
The order weighs each bow’s stated class role, ammo utility, range and precision, and usefulness for elemental buildup or component targeting. Since the cited guides do not provide a consistent ten-bow comparison with verified performance figures and acquisition details, the placements are editorial rather than a measured damage ranking. Where a guide supports only a class role or a named example, the entry says so instead of inventing a specific advantage.

Class matters: Hunter bows are flexible utility weapons; Warrior bows favor quick use at close range over range and precision; Sharpshot bows are built for deliberate, long-range impact shots. For elemental arrows, distinguish impact damage from elemental buildup—the buildup value is the relevant figure when judging how quickly an arrow applies a status effect.
The 10 best bows, ranked by role and utility
1. Death-Seeker’s Shadow — Hunter bow
Death-Seeker’s Shadow earns the top spot as a versatile Hunter-bow recommendation. VULKK lists it among the game’s legendary Hunter bows, while Game Truth author Anika Sørensen places it first in an overall weapons guide, pointing to its flexible elemental options and perks. That is one author’s recommendation, not an objective verdict for every build. Its appeal is utility rather than a claim to the highest single-shot damage: Hunter bows can support elemental buildup and component tearing, but VULKK says the class lacks Sharpshot bows’ firepower. - Unravel startling mysteries – uncover the secret behind Earth’s imminent collapse and unlock a hidden chapter in the ancient past… one that will change Aloy forever.
2. Forgefall — Sharpshot bow
Choose Forgefall if your priority is the base game’s top Sharpshot option. VULKK’s guide identifies it as the highest-tier Sharpshot bow in the base game. Sharpshot bows suit patient aim, long-range impact, and attempts to target armor or critical components before a machine closes the distance. This is a class-specific recommendation; it does not establish Forgefall as the best bow across all roles or expansions. VULKK’s Sharpshot bow guide; Game Truth’s weapons recommendations.
3. The Sun Scourge — Hunter bow
The Sun Scourge is another named legendary Hunter bow in VULKK’s catalogue. Its placement here reflects the class’s broad elemental and component utility, not a verified head-to-head advantage over the other Hunter bows on this list. Consider a Hunter bow when you want a flexible tool for applying elemental status or tearing components, rather than maximum precision damage at long range. VULKK’s Hunter bow guide.

4. Carja’s Bane — Warrior bow
Carja’s Bane is a named legendary Warrior bow, suited to the class’s close-range role. VULKK describes Warrior bows as trading range and precision for more close-range firepower, with fast elemental buildup useful when an enemy is too close for a comfortable switch to a Hunter or Sharpshot bow. The sources do not establish that Carja’s Bane outperforms Eye of the Storm, so this position is not a direct comparison. VULKK’s Warrior bow guide.
5. Eye of the Storm — Warrior bow
Eye of the Storm is VULKK’s other named legendary Warrior-bow example. Its class makes it a candidate for close-range pressure and quick elemental application, not for precision shots across a battlefield. There is no supported direct ranking between Eye of the Storm and Carja’s Bane here; choose between them based on their in-game ammo and stats rather than assuming one is universally superior. 6. Emperor’s Reign — Hunter bow
Emperor’s Reign appears in VULKK’s list of legendary Hunter bows. That makes it a named option in the flexible Hunter class, whose uses include elemental status buildup and component tearing. The sources do not provide a verified relative rank or a specific all-build advantage for Emperor’s Reign, so its position is a shortlist placement, not a claim that it beats other Hunter bows in damage or availability. VULKK’s Hunter bow guide.
7. A general Hunter bow for component work
For players deciding by task instead of legendary name, a Hunter bow is a strong component-focused choice. VULKK describes the class as versatile and useful for tearing off machine components as well as applying elemental effects. Compared with a Sharpshot bow, the trade-off is less firepower; compared with a Warrior bow, the point is broader utility rather than close-range speed. This is a role recommendation, not a separate named model.
Rank #4
- A Majestic Frontier - Explore the lush forests, sunken cities and towering mountains of a far-future America.
- Brave An Expansive Open World - Discover distant lands, new enemies, rich cultures and striking characters.
- Confront New Dangers - Engage in strategic battles against enormous machines and mounted human enemies by using weapons, gear and traps crafted from salvaged parts.
- Unravel Startling Mysteries - Uncover the secret behind Earth's imminent collapse and unlock a hidden chapter in the ancient past... one that will change Aloy forever.
8. A general Hunter bow for elemental setup
Hunter bows also suit elemental setup when you want to build a status effect at a more flexible range than a close-range Warrior bow allows. Judge an elemental arrow by its buildup stat when the goal is status application, and keep that separate from its impact damage. The sources support the class role, but do not establish a single Hunter-bow model as the best elemental option for every encounter.
9. A general Warrior bow for close-range pressure
When a machine is already close, a Warrior bow’s fast handling and close-range firepower can be more useful than trying to line up a precise Sharpshot shot. VULKK also points to the class for fast elemental buildup. Its shorter effective role and lower precision make it a situational choice; it is not a substitute for long-range component targeting.
10. A general Sharpshot bow for patient long-range shots
Sharpshot bows belong on the list for players who can take time to aim and want impact at long range. Game Truth recommends the class for precise shots that can remove armor or critical components before a machine reaches Aloy. Forgefall is the guide-backed base-game high-tier choice above, but the role itself is broader than any one named bow.

| Your priority | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Flexible elemental and component utility | Hunter bow, including Death-Seeker’s Shadow | Hunter bows combine elemental buildup and component utility; they are not the class to choose for maximum Sharpshot firepower. |
| Long-range precision and impact | Sharpshot bow; Forgefall for the base game’s high-tier option | Sharpshot bows reward deliberate aim and can target armor or critical components from range. |
| Fast response when an enemy is close | Warrior bow, such as Carja’s Bane or Eye of the Storm | The class favors close-range firepower and quick elemental buildup over range and precision. |
| Applying an elemental status | Compare the relevant elemental buildup stat on a suitable bow | Impact damage and elemental buildup are different measures; buildup matters for status application. |
What this ranking does—and does not—establish
The named recommendations are grounded in guide classifications and one author’s overall weapons preference. They do not establish an objective order across every bow class, playstyle, expansion, or New Game+ setup. Nor do they provide consistent item-by-item performance figures, verified acquisition conditions, or upgrade-resource costs for all ten entries. Treat the role-based recommendations as a way to narrow your choice, then compare the stats and ammo available on the bow in your own game.
